in some aspects yes. Salt not only makes you retain water weight but it also hardens your arteries making it harder for blood to pump through which in turn gives poor circulation, poor circulation slows down the metabolisim in turn not buring as many calories. This does not happen overnight and will take a few years depending on your salt consumption.

The previous answers are all correct. There are no calories in salt, but it makes you thirsty. If you then drink any beverage with calories in it, you're liable to gain weight. If you drink just water, you'll gain the weight of that water (one pint = about one pound) for as long as the water is in your system.
