Ok. I have 2 puppys. I feed them both Science Diet puppy food. One was born in March ('07) and the other in October ('07). You stop feeding your dog puppy food at one year, right? Why? What is going to happen if my younger one eats adult food? I just don't know much about dog food and need some help.

Other dog foods upset my dogs tummies so I got science diet which my vet recommended. I have done a lot of research from real reliable sources.

I would recommend Nutro Natural Dog food. The reason why there are different foods is because as your dog gets older it will need different proteins. Any commercial food is really bad just read the ingredients, animal by-product is bad!! As well as corn dogs can't digest corn. I work at petsmart and I always recommend the Nutro brand.

the reason to switch foods ends up being in the calories and nutritional content. Will it hurt an adult dog? No. you might just have to adjust to a lower amount if they start to gain weight.

And, Science Diet is not the best food out there, they have a lot of corn as filler. Some dogs have allergies to corn so it isnt good for them. But if you are happy with Science Diet, stick with it.

Commercial dog foods are scientifically blended for their different growth requirements. For one: As a puppy they need more nutrition for bone building than they do as adults.
Puppies grow fast up to about 1 year and their their needs drop some. A puppy fed incorrectly can develop lots of problems.

When you switch their foods you might trying doing a blend of the two for a few months rather than a total switch which could upset their tummies.

Please switch to a higher quality dog food. SD is really really bad. I fed my dog SD at the advice of my VET but after I did a lot of research I switched to a much better food. I would suggest Canidae All Life Stages. You can feed it to your dog no matter how old he/she is.
