Like gordon ramsey who is really a nice decent guy in real life, is a psycho running a kitchen. It seems to be the norm, my wife says it is because they are hot. But i have been hot plenty of times and have not gone mad. Anyone know?

There's a lot of passion in the heart of the chef when it comes to being in the kitchen. A whole lot of that can lead to a great many things as can be seen when applied to a great many other things in life.

It's not just being hot. Couple that with stress and frustration. Especially when the people you depend on are messing up your reputation. My oft-heard phrase was "GET OUT OF MY WAY OR DO AS I SAY!" But I'm normally a really nice person, and that's what I turned back into at the end of the night when I could walk out of the kitchen to where it was cooler, sit down and have a beer, and relax. It's just a high pressure job to work in the kitchen.

Head Chefs are control freaks but considering the intelligence of many of the people who can only get a job as a line cook or a dish washer, I suppose the only way to get something done is to make the not-too-bright afraid of them.

If they weren't like that the running of the kitchen would fall to pieces very quickly.
