Dinner is a big deal but what about breakfast. Do you have something to munch on while the kids are opening presents? Do you wait till it's all over and if so-how do you keep them at the table and not racing the remote control car. I have traditionally made some kind of sweet cake that doesn't necessarily require a fork but this year I am baking a cheese bread braid which won't be quite as messy. Any other ideas?

1-Yeast Breads

Evoke memories of your family's Christmas past with some of these traditional Yuletide bread recipes from the old country. Well wrapped, yeast bread can be made frozen for up to 8 weeks with little or no loss of quality. On Christmas morning, place the frozen loaf directly into a preheated 300 degree F (150 degree C) oven for 30 to 45 minutes. Eat hot out of the oven. These are simple enough to serve with coffee or hot cocoa while the little ones are exploring the packages under the tree.Panettone I

2-Quick Breads

Baking for a family of nibblers? Try a little pumpkin butter with any one of these delectable muffins, scones, or fruit breads. All can be baked and frozen at least a week in advance. Warm them up on Christmas morning in a preheated 300 degree F (150 degree C) oven: allow approximately 30 minutes to warm a frozen coffeecake, and 10 to 20 minutes for muffins.

Hey! Umm well I'm 13 and here's what we do... Dinner really isn't a big deal on Christmas for my family! But, on Christmas Eve, after the Christmas Eve service we go out for Chinese food... Then the next day my mom makes a brunch including cheese eggs casserole, cheese grits, biscuits from scratch, bacon, and other things! So breakfast is definitely a bigger deal for my family on Christmas... Because we're so full after that brunch, we don't really eat dinner... Good luck with making breakfast for your family!

Every year is about the same for us. We wake up early and up gifts (i have 2 boys 15 & 11) Once the gifts are opened, my husband makes us all a BIG breakfast. We eat it and then the kids have a short time to play with there things. We then get ready to go and see my side of the family where we have dinner and open a ton more gifts. It's always the next day that we relax and enjoy.

Fried Eggnog

This time of year I start making this breakfast. We often have it during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade to tide us over and again on Christmas Morning. These subtle changes in the classic recipe make a huge difference.

I have a large family so you may need to scale it down.

7 Lg. Eggs
1/4 C Evaporated Milk
1 Tbs. Brown Sugar
1 tsp. Nutmeg
1 tsp. Rum Extract
18 Slices Bread

Beat eggs, milk, sugar nutmeg, and rum extract until completely blended. Dip each side of each slice of bread in the batter. Fry on a heated non-stick pan or griddle until golden on each side.

*Tip*

I heat the oven to 200 deg. and place each finished slice on a cookie sheet in the oven to keep them warm.

Serve warm with butter and maple syrup.

*Tip*

Heat the syrup in a small saucepan over low heat adding rum extract to taste

Usually I make a breakfast casserole the night before, that has to sit in the fridge overnight. Then we get up, preheat oven, bake it, and open presents! :-)

This year, I've discovered some frozen cinnamon roll dough balls from Costco... you put them in a greased pan in a COLD oven, turn it to 350ºF, and set the timer for 40 min or so... when the timer goes off, just add icing (some comes in bag, I may make my own). Simple and good!

We always do what we call "Brazilian Breakfast". We get some really good quality lunch meats and french bread. Toast up the bread, lots of butter and different jams with stong coffee, bailey's, steamed milk, and honey. It's simple and light, but satisfying and definitely everyone's favorite!

Actually Breakfast is a big deal with our family. We head to the in-laws and my father-in-law cooks us bacon, ham, eggs (anyway you want them), regular and blueberry pancakes, toast, hash, etc... We fill up so much that lunch and dinner are usually pick on foods.
