I have absolutely no idea what triggers our brains back into consciousness without a noise to startle it...Is your brain aware of the time even if your conscious self is not?

This question bears directly on the problem of what consciousness is. Where do YOU go when you are asleep or otherwise unconscious? And what is the neuro-chemical mechanism by which YOUR senses are turned off at night and then revitalized in the morning? Because YOU do wake up to the sound of an alarm clock or other stimulus YOU are not consciously aware of is my proof that there is an unconscious mined (that is unconscious to ME) but is still quite "aware" of the environment In some unrecollected way.

It is as if there are two aspects of your being. the one which is the YOU in caps in the previous paragraph and the other that is subliminal and not recollected by the sentient YOU. Science does not understand how they are interconnected to form your whole being.

The fact that you posed this question is evidence to me that you are aware of this subliminal you which is unusual. I hope you have enough interest to research what is known about human consciousness and even go on to do original research work on the problem (s).

Good luck in awakening, good mental health, peace and Love!

Hello,
Nope, I have a horrible sense of time awake or not, now what day is it?
The alarm has to go off, and it wakes everyone in the house and I am sure the neighbors hear it as well. After it wakes everyone else, the alarm finally wakes me.
Some day I will be able to sleep in, but I wont hold my breath lol!
I could not go back to sleep so here I am :0)

First, sleep is when the majority of our brain is at rest. Dreaming is our mind still processing things. Despite this, you can be woken up in the middle of the night if you have to urinate. This is because a portion of your mind is still active and checking on biological requirements. Hunger, need to urinate, parts of the body falling asleep/loosing circulation all contributes to our return to consciousness.

I generally wake up 10 minutes (almost to the dot) before my alarm goes off. I would conclude from this that my mind is keeping track of time as well to some degree.

some what, yes, your brain is aware. But noise is not the most effective way to wake up (naturally or not), sun light would be the #1 trigger, and also, scents can do it. If you had no alarm clock, but your mom cooked eggs, you'd wake up as soon as the smell of them got to your nostrils.

Welcome to another one of those things that cannot be seen but are definitely THERE. In this instance it is your body's Internal Clock. You can actually set it to wake up at any time you wish. Simply concentrate on a specific time as you lay in bed before falling asleep, tell yourself I must wake up at X AM or PM and see what happens. Most never hit the precise minute, but will awaken within 5 - 10 minutes of their chosen time. Your brain is fully aware of the concept of time and that also explains "jet lag".
