Good for you!!! Take her to a few shelters and make her see the problem that she would be adding to. Hopefully it will break her heart to see all those wonderful dog sitting waiting to die and she will change her mind.
You can only do so much, but that is not a friend that I would like to have.

I assume your friend isn't a bad person, but is just ignorant. Perhaps she wants a puppy, to keep, that is from her dog...that's the only reason I can think of for home breeding a mixed breed. Whatever her reason is, she's having an attack of selfishness.
Everyone who answered this question has given good suggestions; it would be great if you can implement them. Here's a harsh idea to shock her a bit: I would also get her a book or show her a video that is chock full of horror stories about what can go wrong with the pregnancy and labor of a dog. With graphic pictures of the illnesses dogs can suffer from and of deceased puppies if possible. That might change her mind.
Birth is a beautiful and natural process, but I'd ask if she has had the dog's generative organs examined to see if everything is normal and healthy, and if the vet thinks the dog is likely to give birth safely. Will she have the dog going to check ups at the vets?
I would also ask her how likely is she to have her first baby at home? People do this to their dog all the time, because maternity care and having the dog labor at the vets is so expensive. I'd even ask if she's going to get the dog a midwife! Home breeding is not necessarily a good idea, especially if the dog being bred is a first time mother. You can point out that she and the dog are both inexperienced- what if the little mom gets stressed out and devours the babies? Does your friend think she can handle that kind of thing? It might even change her feelings about the dog...

You can't, you may feel one way against breeding but she does not have the same feelings you do in regards to breeding. Trying to change her mind is going to end up with you two no longer being friends. I personally think people who breed their mutt are retards, they can't give one good reason why they should breed their already mixed breed dog to create more mixed breed puppies. She probably thinks puppies will be fun and cute to have, how about tell her how much work it is starting with the dog going into labor, she could have complications needing a very expensive c-section , the cost of feeding mom extra and then the puppies eat a ton when they start eating solids, the mess they make is unbelievable, you will be cleaning up puppy poop and pee many times a day, they also will need their vaccines at 6 weeks which if this dog has a large litter is going to be a big bill as well on top of everything else. Don't get in her face about it, but just tell her it's not as easy as sticking two dogs together and then voila puppies 63 days later...the hard part is the puppies!

Seems like she's very self-centered and only wants her way, doesn't think of the consenquences, u're right there are so many abandoned mutts out there, and she wants more mutts, I'd understand if that was a pure breed dog and she wanted pure breed puppies, yeah she'd find more people interested in buying those, otherwise she'd end up putting the pups in the shelter, yeah....take her to the shelter and show her those poor little puppies that have no home. That's what's going to happen to those pups if she doesn't sell them because she won't want to take care of 6 puppies on her own.....Dogs are like kids they require attention, love, play time, feeding, they get sick too, so then the visits to the vet are gonna cost her a fortune. Hope this helps, please try to convince her, PLEASE! Good Luck!!

I would see why she wants to breed. Most breeders breed for the line, but since it's a mutt, then there is really no need. If she has people who specifically want that puppy, then maybe it's ok. But yes, kennels are over run with dogs that need good homes!!!! I would not yell at her for doing it, that would get you no where, but ask her what is going to happen to the puppies. I guarantee she won't get the money she thinks she will for them. Plus all the vet bills for the mother while she is pregnant and getting the puppies checked out, it's just not worth it.

Why not take her to visit your local pound?
Explain to her that it's even harder for large, active dogs to find and keep homes, and that even if she manages to find homes for all of the puppies, it is likely that only one or two of them will actually make it to their second birthday.
Explain to her that, when people turning their dogs into the pounds are asked where they originally got it, the most frequent reply is "from a friend or relative".
Then tell her about the risks to her dog. Possibilities of complications, eclampsia, masitits, pyometra. Some friends of mine, experienced breeders, had a healthy young female go into labor and simply drop dead before delivering a single puppy. This stuff DOES happen. Even if her dog is okay, chances are she'll have to deal with at least one dead puppy.
Then tell her about the expense. Extra vet visits, x-rays, possible emergencies (stuff usually seems to happen in the middle of the night, on weekends), shots and food for the puppies, advertising, and if she doesn't place all the puppies when they are ready to go (which is possible, large dogs have large litters) then she'll be feeding and vaccinating a bunch of rapidly growing young dogs that will be wreaking havoc on her home.

Have you asked her if she's prepared for what can go wrong? Does she have 24/7 to devote to feeding those puppies if the mother rejects them or her milk doesn't come down? Has she saved up for just in case of that emergency c-section? Does she know the signs for when the dog is in trouble and a pup is stuck? Does she know what to do about it? Has she studied what to do, if the dog is too vigorous in cleaning up the newborns and rips an umbilical hernia? If she doesn't know the answers, perhaps she should rethink her plan, as this is just a small sample of what one should be prepared for.

Trust me I have tried for decades. When some moron gets the idea to breed their dog (Mutt or Purebred) there isn't anything you can do to stop it. They just dont care what you or others think. That is why the shelters are full. Idiots and their ideas how " But, for me the rules dont apply" Sad but, True! Poor Dogs!

Tell her that is it very unhealthy for her lovely female and will make her breast ugly and later could set her up for cancer of the breast.(true)
If she wants to enjoy her lady the best thing she can do is have her spayed so she will be healthier longer and not have to produce some puppies that the world does not need.
