If you want to get rid of some of the starch in the rice, rinse it in cold water several times until the water runs clear. You can then cook it as you would any other short grain rice. If you are going to use it in place of Arborio rice, like for a risotto, that isn't necessary. The starch will make it creamier.

You only need to follow the instructions on the package if you are planning to make it for sushi.

It's just rice only of the short grain variety. Treat it like rice.

Of course you can still eat it. This rice is just stickier then normal rice. To make sushi you need really sticky rice otherwise it will just fall apart. So if you were making sushi, then you would have to follow the directions on the package. You can just cook it the way you normal do.

But, if you really don't want it, give it to the food bank. They need it right now.

Sushi rice is like Arborrio (risotto) rice, short grained and a little stickier than conventional rice.
It should cook up fine, just follow the water/rice ratio, and the cook time is a little longer.

Short grain rice is all I ever buy. It will cook up sticky like the white rice you get in a Chinese restaurant. You can eat it with chop sticks. Having spent a bunch of time in Hawaii it is the only rice I like. Serve it with Shoyu (soy sauce). Good side dish for most anything, I prefer it over potatoes.

I'm willing to bet you never tried sushi....

Look, the type of rice doesn't matter. You can eat it like any other rice.

Next time, read the label :)
