Unless you're sick or otherwise unable to get to mass, yes.

Christmas is a Holy Day of Obligation. One must go either to the vigil mass (usually called a Midnight Mass but sometimes ending at Midnight, and sometimes just taking place sometime after nightfall on Christmas Eve) or to a Christmas Day Mass.

Only illness, injury, accident, a blizzard, childbirth, attending a family member in death, stopping to rescue people from a burning building, or something like that are allowable reasons for missing Mass on Christmas or any other Holy Day of Obligation.

Missing Mass on weekend and holy Days of Obligation, such as Christmas, is a sin - potentially a mortal sin if one is aware of their obligation and blows off Mass regardless for no good reason.

One might miss Mass due to sickness, or some other issue(s) beyond their control. This is not necessarily sinful because the desire to worship God at Mass is still there.

Attending Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation (of which Christmas is one) is one of the Six Precepts of the Church. It is a sin unless there is a reasonable...erm, reason. (You have a nasty flu...you're at a cottage that's more than an hour or two - I forget the exact number - away from the nearest Catholic church).

Yes, in the Catholic religion it's actually considered a mortal sin to miss Mass on Sunday and Holy Days.

YES - it's not only a sin, it's sad. the CAtholic churches offer a variety of mass times and I would think every Christian should WANT to attend the party in Jesus honour!

i was told it's a minor sin to even miss sunday mass. not something hell-worthy, but a sin nonetheless

then again, they might have said that to scare the 7 year old me into going.

Not since Vatican II. Prior to that, missing church, unless you were an eldery or ill "shut in" was a mortal sin. Confession, soon thereafter, was a must !!

Contemporary Catholic doctrine suggests attending mass at least twice annually
