Today I walked out of my crappy job, because I was completely fed up with the boss barking orders and being disrespectful, and the random hours, and the rude customers, but that's besides the point. I had put in 67 hours since my last paycheck. I really don't want to have to deal with these people again. I understand that after 3 days, it will be job abandonment, and I will have quit. Will they mail me a check, or will they attempt to not pay me until I call and hassle them about it?

To answer Bree: I don't have a stub with my hours, but it's on a punch-clock, so there is a record of my hours. I'm not sure that they understood that I was even quitting the more that I think about it. I said "I won't take anymore of this, I'm leaving!" And the manager on duty just said "OK", and I left.

If you normally pick up your check at work, they may just hold it until you should up. If there is an HR person or a payroll person, you should be able to talk to them and avoid the boss.

If you normally get your check in the mail, this check should come that way too.

So, you walked out and you are expecting to just wait for the time limit until you are assumed to have quit. Why don't you just call them and tell them? Once again, you might be able to talk to an HR person or someone in the office.

There's no guarantee that they'll mail it to you- technically, they're not required to. How did you normally get your check when you were still an active employee? If you picked it up at work, chances are that it'll still be sitting there. As much as you hate the idea of dealing with them, I'd suggest calling them to ascertain whether or not a check is waiting for you. If there is one, you should designate a third party (make sure you tell the employer who that party is) to pick up the check for you.

they will give you the check via the usual method. If you had to stop in to grab it, just go it and ask a manager for it. They can not hassle you about it and they have to provide you with the check.

Also, if you don't think they quite understood that you quit then go in and talk to a manager. Say flat out that you're quitting. You don't have to give a reason so if they ask and you don't want to tell, then don't.

Well, you're entitled to the check legally, so don't be afraid to be pushy about it, but for their sake, try to be polite about it. Remember that even though many of us are jealous of you for your courage to just stand up to a bad employer and walk out like that, it probably won't get you the best reference and is considered "unprofessional."
