I am a 14 year old boy and have REALLY BAD acne problems- I have tried Proactiv, Oxy and Eucerin. All have hardly calmed it down at all and I have pimple outbreaks one after the other. I am currently using proactiv 2 times a day. But my forehead is nearly covered in pimples. My mum says to drink Guava juice a lot to help it. I'm also gonna try out Kose's spots serum next. But any other tips would help. I also have acne all over my back and chest and arms. Please Help!

Its vital that you drink lots of water to cleanse your system. Ask your mother to take you too a derm, because proactive really only works on mild acne. The acne you seem to have is internal and topical treatments may not be good enough. Antibiotics such as doxycyclin or accutane could really help you, also you have to eat healthy: no fried, greasy foods or soda...also cut back on dairy and spicy foods because acne can derive from digestive problems. Your daily regimen should be a wash with a good (no chemical containing) facewash, a light exfoliation, tone and moisturized. Sometimes acne is genetic, but if you take EXTRA great care of your skin, you could fight it. GREAT Luck...praying also helps :)

Acne is to do with elevated male hormone / testosterone (T) levels causing over active oil / sebum production & pimples when the skin pores clog up with the secretions and inflammation sets in (associated with puberty etc.).

Topical lotions etc. only work to try to enable the pores to remain clear, letting the oil out, not effective if your acne is anything other than mild.

If your acne is really bad you MUST go and see your doctor if you want to avoid permanent scarring as he can prescribe effective treatment.

If your a guy you don't want to block the "T" as it has a major effect in masculinization & libido .... so you go onto antibiotics (e.g. Tetracyclenes) which calm the inflammation and infection that lead to spots, combined maybe with a short course of the really aggressive Roaccutane which stops sebum production dead. Your doctor will know the best meds to prescribe.

If your a girl the the "miracle cure" is a mild anti-anrdogen like Spironolactone which really tackles the problem at "root" by reducing testosterone to stop excessive oil / sebum production (normal / dry hair and skin within a few days !) .... stops acne dead ....

Its a big myth that diet / hydration / inadequate cleansing has any effect on acne .... all the astringent lotions do is dry the spots out. not a good long term solution.

I say once again if you have serious acne you should see your doctor or a dermatologist as soon as possible .... tell your mum this is what you need (its not "wimpy" for a guy to be concerned about his skin) .... and your acne will be history in a few weeks !

Eating good: no caffeine, sugar or unnatural fats

Drinking LOTS water to flush your system

Getting enough sleep- I break out bad if I don't get more then 5 hours a sleep (especially for an extended period of time)

If you have a local organic store, like Whole Foods... talk with one of the people wandering around in the skin care section (of course someone who works there) and ask them about some strong acne products. The problem with a lot of acne products is that they have a lot of added crap, if you go organic you get the base of everything you need without the crap.

It might just be genetics too... my mom eats really health, exercises, drinks water, sleeps, cleans her face, but she still has acne.

Proactiv never worked for me and was just a waste of money. I then tried Acne Free which can be purchased at Wal-Mart or CVS and it works much better and is less expensive. It has 3 bottles that look similar to Proactiv but i haven't had a breakout in over a year now. They also have a Severe Acne Free Formula you might want to try 1st. it's about $30.00 for the Severe formula and $20.00 for the reg.

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

When I was your age I had the same problem. I tried everything possible! I started using Proactive, and it helped control the acne, but it didnt make it go away. I then got a prescription for Retin-A Micro and it went away in just a couple months!

Go see a dermatologist because he can prescribe you some meds that work way better than those OTC remedies. I had acne all my life and am still struggling a little, only because I need to see my dermatologist but every since I started seeing a dermatologist my skin has improved so much.

Don't touch your face with your hands either. The friction causes acne too! Just a tip...

i think time is usually the best thing you can do for yor acne because acne is normal during this age i have it too.UMM, lets see i use clearasil ultimate pack with a breakout fighter, lotion, cleanser, and a toner. it doesn't have benzoyl peroxide which i think is bad for your skin, it has salycic acid. i've used it and my acne has improved. here's a pic of the product http://www.reckittbenckiser.com/RBUploadedResources/Clearasil_Ultra_Lo_Res.jpg
