I like to spike it with Captain Morgan rum and then shave some fresh nutmeg in. You can also spike with whiskey.
Traditionally, rum and brandy are used. Recently, eggnog has made a comeback with butterscotch schnapps.
Whatever you use, have one for me.

Rum is great with egg nogg. Also Baileys! So many people go nuts for the creamy taste of Baileys. My mom rarely ever has a drink, but when I have egg nogg and Bailleys, she has never said no! lol Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

I can't believe how many people said "vodka". Yes, it will add an alcoholic value, but no flavor.
Rum or brandy are traditional, but I like to be a little more daring:
Winter White Russian
1.5 oz vanilla vodka
1.5 oz Kahlua
3 oz eggnog
sprinkle with nutmeg

Go to Wal Mart and buy the Southern Comfort Egg Nog (it's in a black carton).
Go to your local liquor store and buy some Sourthern Comfort.
Directions are on the Egg Nog.
