Since my patrone saint is Saint Bernadette should my confirmation name be that as well? I'm a little confused about how the name comes about.

While I'm at it- how do you get your name after you take your vows as a religious sister?

Yes, and that is a great name to choose. You are so sweet. God bless you. Merry Christmas.

EDIT: TO "bibliophile1954": I hate to say this during Advent, but you are a blithering idiot.

They can be two different saints. And many Catholics add their either their confirmation or patron name to their legal name.

For instance, my sister's patron at birth was Bernadette. She has always given her full name as Aimee Collette Bernadette.

She took Elizabeth of Hungary as her patron, but still uses Bernadette.

My patron and confirmation saint are the same as my first name, so there was no change for me.

You confirmation name can be whichever saint you want. I would research the saints and decide which Saint would most fit who you are.

I'm partial to St. Cecilia, because she is the patron saint of music, and I am a music director.

You can choose whichever name you want for you confirmation name, traditionally it should follow one which a saint had.

I believe it is the same for religious vows, but don't quote me on that.
