It is generally believed that Jesus was born into a poor family. I thing that the reason people believe this is because he was rapped in swaddling cloths, but swaddling was a custom for a child that was born to be a king. It was a form of the salt covenant. The strips of cloth were soaked in salt water, and it was a dedication service that the child was to be raised to be true to his word.

A carpenter wasn't exactly the trade of a poor man either.

The wise men are depicted as only three men with very small gifts, but caravans traveled in groups many times of hundreds, and the gifts given to honor a king were not small. After the visit of the wise men, I believe that he was quite wealthy.

What says you?

2 Cor. 8:9 - "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich." I believe the gifts the wise men gave to honor the Saviour were used to support Jesus & His family when they fled to Egypt and lived there until the death of Herod.

Jesus is so awesome! Jesus was poor so you could be freed from poverty.
Jesus took our sins and sicknesses upon Himself when He died on the Cross of Calvary, so you and I could receive forgiveness of all sin and be healed of any sickness or disease.
Jesus was beaten, spit upon, cursed, and hated so that we could be made ever with whole and pure and righteous in the sight of God and man.
Jesus was wrongly sentenced and after dying, taken to the lower hell and he suffered for three days so that you and I could be declared "Not Guilty" and escape the eternal fires of hell and the lake of fire where Satan's doom is.
Jesus was glorified and sat down beside the Father in heaven so that You and I could be made kings and heirs of God and adopted into the family of the Most High God of all creation, and one day be gloried with Him when Christ returns to set up His glorious kingdom on this earth, you and I will be given power and authority to rule and reign with him in our immoral new body where we shall never experience sin, sickness, poverty and spiritual death ever again..Jesus has done this because of His unconditional love for all! But to those who reject Jesus, also forfeit their rights as kings in Christ' coming kingdom..Jesus is so awesome!

Jesus' wealth will always be a moot point (how could anyone ever know - the bible is the only source of information on him and that was written years after his death).

However the church has certainly amassed vast sums of money in his name since..
