For Jews just read Job.

Job 28:28. and unto man he said, behold the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom(Christians turn to romans 3:18 read it then turn back) and to DEPART from EVIL is UNDERSTANDING.(Christians turn to Romans 3:11)

even though I do believe Romans 3:10-18 is in the old testement...but I have no referance right now.

Problem, way to go and hence you are all sinners, and need Jesus to die for you.

I say no because it's not our job to become perfect.

Understanding God's will for us and -- as much as we can --about God's nature, is extremely important for our walk with Him.

But knowledge _about_ God, understanding things _about_ God, isn't the same thing AS God.

The Church condemned gnosticism as heresy a long time ago: they knew that confusing our ideas about God with God Himself, leads to bad theology.

Become perfect?

Not while we are living on this earth.

Bit there will be a time, when we are face to face with Christ, that we WILL be perfect.

In the meantime, I say with Paul:

Pressing on Toward the Goal
12Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

I say No because no one can really "understand God" only our perception of God.

How does man propose to know and understand everything within the universe with our limited ability of perception and reasoning. That would be what it is to "understand God". The invention cannot surpass the inventor, it only has the ability to function within the set parameters.

As for the scripture references I can comb through any book and find a line or verse that I can make say, mean, or justify whatever I want it to (because then I can take it out of literal context and historical meaning)

You cannot become perfect because only God is perfect. God also says that we are sinners. There is no way that you can go through life without sin. That is why Jesus was born and why he died on the cross. To save us from our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. So we are forgiven for not being perfect, we are forgiven for our sins.

Romans is in the NT. Just understanding God doesn't make anyone perfect. No one on earth can be perfect. The Bible says that doesn't happen until we get to heaven.

No one can be perfect. Jesus is the only "perfect human being" there ever was or will be. One can only strive to be perfect and live a good life. Jesus is a role model but there is no way for us to BE perfect. We are sinners and we can't change that its in our nature. We will never fully understand God either. That's impossible he is WAY WAY to big for us to even try to start to comprehend. We can respect him and have faith in his ways but will will never fully understand him or be perfect.

We only become perfect when we reach Heaven.

As for Job, he was righteous in the eyes of God, but he still wasn't perfect.

We can try to attain perfection--but thank Almighty God for His grace!

If we could have been perfect, there would have been no reason for salvation or Jesus.

Obviously not. G-d is beyond human understanding--that's why the Kabbalistic literature even exists, as an attempt to understand the Divine.

Fortunately, my religion doesn't require me to be perfect in this life, nor does it require me to be perfect to have a place in the World To Come.

No. I can understand the concept of driving a stick-shift. Whether or not I put it to practical application determines whether or not I can drive a stick-shift.

I can understand the concept of God. I could even understand some of His ways of thinking. Whether or not I put those understandings to use will determine whether or not I become more like God.

A human mind is not capiable to understand God he must understand himself first. Perfection comes by obeying God.
