I read this;

An army officer (centurion, KJ) in command of 100 soldiers of the Italian band. Stationed at Caesarea, he had his own house. His Roman name suggests that he may have belonged to a noble family in the imperial city. He was “a devout man” who “made many gifts of mercy to the people and made supplication to God continually,” “a man righteous and fearing God and well reported by the whole nation of the Jews.” It was to this man that an angel appeared in a vision in the fall of 36 C.E., saying: “Your prayers and gifts of mercy have ascended as a remembrance before God.” The angel also told Cornelius to send to Joppa for Peter.—Ac 10:1-22.

When Peter arrived, Cornelius, in the presence of “his relatives and intimate friends,” said to the apostle: “We are all present before God to hear all the things you have been commanded by Jehovah to say.” (Ac 10:24, 33) “While Peter was yet speaking . . . the holy spirit fell upon all those hearing the word.” Thus this group of which Cornelius is named as the most notable became the first uncircumcised Gentiles or non-Jews to receive “the free gift of the holy spirit.” (Ac 10:44, 45) Water baptism immediately followed. Nothing more is known of the life and activity of Cornelius after this.

He was a simple man, who lived out his life on the bay of Apulia after his wife's death. The farm next to his was owned by the freed slave Martera, a woman some five years his junior.

He found himself there often, helping her and her one young son with the work. Cornelius could have sent either of his servants, but felt compelled to do this himself.

There grew a closeness between the three of them, Cornelius, Martera, and the boy. Over time Martera took him to her bed. They were happy, after a fashion, for some years. It was the interference of Cornelius's family that ended this. They had found him a proper wife.

On rare days Cornelius would look out toward Martera's house, often on those days when the mist was heavy and the sea birds would come up from the bay and drift crying and unseen in the fog. Who knows what the aging man heard in their voices, but he would some times weep.

This is all I know of Cornelius, and it was told to me by a friend, so who knows the truth of it.

Cornelius: a centurion whose history is narrated in Acts 10. He was a "devout man," and like the centurion of Capernaum, believed in the God of Israel. His residence at Caesrea probably brought him into contact with Jews who communicated to him their expectations regarding the Messiah; and thus he was prepared to welcome the message Peter brought him. He became the first fruit of the Gentile world to Christ. He and his family were baptized and admitted into the Christian church (Acts 10:1,44-48).

He was a Roman centurian, which means he was over 100 soldiers.

He was a good man. Acts 10:2 describes him as "a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always."

In spite of being a good man, he was not saved. The angel told him to "‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter, who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved." (Acts 11:13-14)

As Peter began to speak, he received the Holy Spirit as a sign that he, a Gentile, could be saved. (Acts 11:15)

Then Peter continued telling them the words by which they would be saved. "He commanded them to be baptized" (Acts 10:48) "for the remission of sins" (Acts 2:38).
