Says that I can't do it. That sucks.

Is there a patch or workaround?

You can access your remote XP computer by using third party softwares like vnc. This is a freeware available on internet. Hope this helps

You are correct that you can't do it with MS Windows Vista Home editions. Third party solutions are about your only option. VNC is certainly one choice, but it does lack some of the security features of Remote Desktop (i.e. the local keyboard, video, and mouse are still usable, at least in the default configuration).

With any solution, you may need to configure an opening in your firewall to allow traffic on a particular port to forward to your PC at home. Most routers simply ignore most traffic so you'll need to mess with the configuration. Fortunately most have pretty good wizards to get you through the setup.

Most probably you don't have REMOTE CALL operating in your Services Settings.

Also machines have to have a SHARE enabled to allow someone to access the machine.

Services is the first place I would check.
