Most Wiccans celebrate the rebirth of the God, who dies at Halloween, if I'm not mistaken. There's a lot of mirthmaking and evergreen decorations. There aren't any set ways to celebrate Sabbats in the Wiccan religion; it varies by tradition, and by the coven. Some traditions, like the Alexandrian Tradition, whose public domain Book of Shadows you can get on Google, have stories about the Oak King and the Holly King. The Holly King rules during fall and winter until he gets defeated in the the spring by the Oak King, who reigns until fall again. There's also stuff about the rebirth of the sun.

Riegan!!!!!!!!!!!
Tonight the kids and I are honoring Frigga and the disir. Tomorrow I'm having a party/Freyrblot. Then I go home and my sister and I will most likely have a Thorblot and she'll want an Odinblot in there I'm sure. Lots of food, lots of eggnog, lots of family. What better way is there!!
Hail the Gods!!

Oracle: Calling someone out of the boards is tacky. (I can't believe I just used the word tacky)
That's not tacky. That is between you and the other person. I'm not going pass judgement on that either way since I have no idea how it went, but like I said. Calling someone out publicly is a bit tack. I'm a freaking HEATHEN and I think it's tacky and we LIKE to start crap.
You know if you say tacky enough times, it starts to sound realy funny. Tacky tacky tacky tacky.....

Interesting. Now I don't make sense because I don't agree with you. Huh. Your just a walking contradiction there aren't ya?

Wow, flattering. Nice to know I am haunting SOMEONE'S dreams......:D

I think the season should be what you want it to be about. However, I agree that it was the solstice that was THE reason for the season.

Have fun Rieg. I will not be having a happy solstice/yule/Christmas, aside from that happiness I'm boutnd to make for myself.

Merry Christmas, Merry Solstice, Happy Yule to all, w/e you call it. ^_^

We are having a family and friend feast with traditional Yule stuff.

A (local) fir tree from a plantation, mistletoe, mulled wine, roast dinner, yule log on the fire, (woodburner actually!) decorations, music, etc. Mostly togetherness. We will exchange small gifts over a 3 day period. Our families get together and we go for a wintery walk on the 26th, and maybe stop for ale in a pub on the way return.

I am distributing 4 bags of clothing and 2 boxes of pet food this weekend to two local charities. I also support 'The Big Issue', as homelessness is even more critical around the depths of winter in these Northern climes...

Have a great one!

Tonight is Mothersnight, the traditional beginning of Yule for Asatruar/heathens.

There's a long list of customs that are kept on this night, beginning with an all night vigil. Blot will be offered to my familial goddesses, the Disr, to Freyja, and to Sunna, at different times throughout the night. Candles and a Yule fire will be kept burning, and a glass of spiked eggnog will be left out on the kitchen table for Frigga.

In between blots, I'll watch movies and smoke cigars. :-)

I'm celebrating with close friends. The military life tends to make one develop an extended family, not bonded by blood. But they are no less family in my eyes.

Blood relatives came to visit for Thanksgiving, so this holiday season with be spent with the close friends.

Happy Holidays!

I watched the sun rise this morning (not necessarily by choice) and since I'm travelling today I won't be able to have the ritual I'd like, so I'll spend some time in contemplation and meditation.

Blessed Solstice to those who celebrate!!

When I go to church on the 25th I will walk in backwards as they used to do in the beginning as it is celebrating the Solstice that is for sure. Why did they walk in backwards up the stairs to go into the Temple as not to offend the Sun Good of Rome. The early Christian fathers allowed this pagan practise as they were recruiting those pagans of Italy into the fold of Christianity.

Having friends over and going to light up a bonfire. Uh, ok, it was "supposed" to be a bonfire but the brush pile is now covered with 2 feet of snow, so we are going to plan B: a camp fire. And we'll have some food and wine too!
