The white settlers came to this country long ago from Europe and made home in a land where they were the minority. They were accepted by the natives at first until they started doing all kinds of crazy things like killing the natives and demeaning them in their own land. They later took over the country.MORE and MORE of them came until the natives were finally the minorities. The settlers even insisted on keeping their own language and not learning the languages of their new home. They pushed the natives into reservations and killed even more of them for NO reason (you know the old stereotype of illegal aliens commiting senseless crimes). They deemed themselves superior and refused to go home. They worked the jobs that the natives "didn't" want to work and multiplied until this country became theirs. Does this story remind you of a current story? How can we be upset about illegal immigration when it is EXACTLY how this nation was founded?Isn't illegal immigration our history?

I could not agree more.....

I am truly baffled by the entire debate. We are a nation borne of immigration, built on immigration, and strengthened by immigration.

And now....the "clubhouse" members say that the club is full. (And certainly full when it comes to people who speak other languages and look different from the "clubhouse" members). They want to shut the doors....

This is precisely the attitude that short-sighted Americans had towards the Irish, Polish, Italian, and virtually every other immigrant group as they moved into the US.

This is arrogant short sightedness and bigotry....nothing more.

Everyone needs to head to the Statue of Liberty and see what she has to say on the issue:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Get it together folks!

Since there was no concept of "nation" or "borders" or "immigrant" in the Americas at the time, it is beyond mindless to claim the European settlers were illegal immigrants - it defies reality.

The natives weren't all that populous and hadn't done much with all the natural resources they had at hand. They were significantly technologically, agriculturally, philosophically, etc inferior to even the Greeks of the 2nd century BC, let alone the military, economic and cultural might of the 15th and 16th century European powers.

As for land, there is no such thing as peoples having a right to it. Unless the tribe / nation can protect it against invaders, then it won't be theirs to claim.

As for the treatment, the settlers were treated no better by the Indians, often being slaughtered or taken as slaves, which was a very typical Indian custom.

This is such an intellectually empty and specious argument, trying to compare the settlement of the Americas with the invasion of the illegal aliens, that I consider anybody advancing it to be of inferior intellect.

Well, except for the fact that not all the Native Americans accepted the settlers & killed as many as they could, your story is factual. They also killed them with diseases that the Native people never had any defenses for.
That was quite a while ago, & hopefully, we have learned since then. The countries that still do that are the barbarians that the Europeans were so many years ago.

When the white settlers came there was no one nation and no laws. Now lets live in the present. One nation and the laws are in place and need to be respected and enforced. Using the past to justify the present is a weak argument. But it could be said that we today have learned from it and will not let history repeat.

The settlers came over here to escape taxation and religous oppression, in a lawless land that was largely undeveloped. Your story is told from one side, however there's always 2 sides and the truth falls somewhere in the middle.
May I also add most of the people of that time had high moral standards, and would roll over in their graves if they were to visit society now.
Our ancestors (white and indian alike) made mistakes, it is time for everyone to move beyond the past and concentrate on the future.

Fighting illegal immigration or even imposing restrictions on legal immigration can also be called self-preservation. It's a NECESSITY these days, like it or not. Or would you like half of this planet's population banging on America's door demanding money and food on account that they're not happy in their home country?
How would you like it if I randomly rang your doorbell and demanded food and shelter? Most people would tell me to go the hell home or call the cops and tell them a dirty bum is harassing you.

The story of the Native Americans (and I don't mean just the ones in the present-day USA, but all of the American continent's) is a very sad one but it's a case of the weak being subverted by the strong, i.e. greedy Whitey from Europe.
The native Americans couldn't defend themselves, but present-day Americans can; they should, and I hope they will.

America was built by immigrants but America also can't accomodate all the immigrants in the world.
I'm an immigrant to America myself, but I'm legal, I work hard and I don't mooch off the government. If every immigrant was like me, there would not be such a big problem -- but still, restrictions need to exist, as said above.

You meant fantasy, not story. That's what I make of this feeble bit of propaganda fed to you by Mecha, FIST, La Raza, etc....

The settlers did not come to this land illegally.
I am not accountable for any crimes that any of my ancestors may have committed. I am responsible for my own actions.

The illegal aliens are responsible for their own crimes that they are committing now.

You are confusing facts with fantasy. The fantasy told to you by Mecha, FIST, La Raza, etc.... is best taken as a bad bed time story.

The American Indians did not have immigration laws to be broken. Many of our ancestors did, in fact, learn the languages of the local tribes.

No it doesn't.
1. The Native Americans fought among themselves, not all of the tribes but some.
2. The Native Americans new that only the strong survive. In some tribes a woman without a man to take care of her had to take care of herself--hunt, fish,etc.---or starve.

The Native Indian's biggest mistake was welcoming the white man, the purple man, and every other person who came to these shores.
