I have four sisters and one brother. My mother buys for everyone but my sister and me. I do not want a gift but I feel her behavior is wrong. She did not send my sister a card but sent me one. I realize xmas is for children.. I am the youngest in the family and my sister is second oldest and we are all adults. Do parents usually buy for adult children, what is your tradition and would you just ignore a parent like this?

I still buy my son everything he puts on his Christmas list and he just turned 30. LOL! What can I say, he's my baby!

Why would your mother exclude you and your sister?
Do you two not have a good relationship with her? Or do you two live close by and see your mother a lot?

Luckily in our family everyone is adults, and we don't buy gifts for each other. Throughout the year we always get each other stuff, but we don't have a traditional gift giving ceremony.

Besides, my parents have everything and what they don't have they can buy.
So, I just make a nice meal and that's our X-Mas.

I would build new traditions with the people who matter most in my life. This would include good friends and extended family. If you would like to keep your mother in your life, get her a gift every Christmas and show her you love her. Even if she has some pathological issue, you must know you have no control over it, and can only control how you feel, not what she does.

This year I told my grown children and all three of mine are grown and all have children of their own. I will buy for the grandchildren but I can not buy for the adults this year I have been unemployed all year due to health reasons and I am living on a very limited income I went from a 60,000 a yr to this year 15,000 and I just dont have it but I told all three of them this in advance and next year I plan on going back to work and then I will buy for them again it is hurting me so much that I can not buy for them this year They all understand but it still hurts I have provided them with free babysitting this year while I have been off work for health reasons. So they said that has helped them tremendously also.

I have two daughters. One is living on her own and one is still under 18 living at home. I do not buy the older as many gifts but I do buy her nice things.

In my family, the grandkids were taken care of...but the kids didn't get anything. Unfortunately, even though I was only 15, I still fell into the kids category. So, no It's not unheard of. But, then from your question, it kinda sounds like your mom is playing favorites.

It doesn't sound as if she's not giving you anything because 'Christmas is for children'. I think you should ask her why you are being excluded and then decide whether or not you should feel left out. Maybe she's got a legitimate reason.

I suppose every family is different but we buy for everyone we love, even if it's something small. For those we don't buy for, we make them something special (Christmas cookies).

On one side of my family, the children (even though they are adults) don't buy presents but they still receive them.

My mom never sends me anything either. Maybe because I moved several thousand miles away so I wouldn't have to listen to her complain about how screwed up I am.
