Last night, my family and I were looking at Christmas lights. As we approached a corner, I saw a man on the ground, in the mud with a bike. He was hit by a car and was there for around 15 minutes and no one stopped. Even after we stopped, cars went by, some slowed and looked but kept going. It was a fairly busy corner. One other car stopped about 5 minutes after we did. The good news is that he wasn't hurt too badly, probably a broken leg but no head injuries or anything life threatening. It's just sad that he was laying there alone and hurt. Whoever hit him didn't care if he lived or died.
Where is the Christmas spirit, the Holiday cheer and good will towards man?

We didn't know he had been hit by a car. I saw the bike but my husband didn't. He cautiously approached the man while our children and I stayed in the car. Then my husband called me over. He called 911 and I tried to see how badly the man was hurt. That's when he told me he was hit around 15 minutes prior and the car took off.
Thanks for the answers. You all are making me feel better! I won't give up on people, even if it seems like I should.
Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Bajingo - That's one of the things that really bothered me. I don't live in a "big" city. Population is about 40,000 and it's a nice town. A nurse was in the car that stopped after we did.

The world has been soiled with self adsorption. People do not want to be involved, they are just TOO busy!
Kudos to you for stopping, I would have done the same thing, you are still not alone!

Maybe some didn't know he was hit by a car. But as far as the Christmas spirit everyone is out for themselves, and not what helps others. This is also true everyday of the year. No one cares, kids disobey parents, parents do not care what their kids do. When people started taking God out of everything this is the snow ball effect. America is so high tech, no one needs each other for help, they have technology to help them. No one visit people on the front porch no more. Everyone is to busy and has no time for anyone else.

I guess the good thing is that after 15 minutes you folks came along to help this man. Usually people would rush to this persons aide but maybe they just felt that he was going to be O.K.or they didn't realize that he actually had been hit by a car. Still I feel that you were the one that was supposed to help him just so that you could be the one to have the opportunity to be the good Samaritan. And therefore be helped someday if you ever find yourself stuck in a ditch due to forces beyond your control.

It's a dog eat dog world... but since this is the R and S section, I would like to add that in the story of the Prodigal Son, the son went out into the world after the famine struck, and ended up yearning to eat the pig food. His wretched situation WAS THE SPARK for him to think of returning to his wealthy Heavenly Father.
Did you ever think that if this earth life was too good, no one would end up in the Spiritual Quest. That quest, according to Christ was to "lose your life to find it."
This misery is just part of the story... it helps people make that turn to look for their heavenly heritage.
Sorry if I didn't explain it very well... the resource below does a better job. Just to say that there is a reason for the "imperfect physical world."

It is sad to see those kinds of situations. I'm glad to hear the man wasn't seriously injured and shame on whoever hit him.
Unfortunatly, in today's society, there are some people who are afraid to help those that seem to need it, because of con artists and violence. Some people pretend to be hurt and murder, rape or rob thier helpers.
Good for you that you stopped and helped that man. Obviously the Christmas spirit is within you. Keep it that way, all year round!

Yeah, what has the human race come to. About 2wks. ago, this lady hit a six yr. old boy on his bike, in the crosswalk and kept going, Thank God a lady saw this and chased her down and brought her back. She said she didn't know she hit him, come to find out, she was an illegal immigrant from Mexico. The little boy was shipped out to a childrens hospital, fortunately he only ended up with a broken leg. I say "Where"s the love y'all"?

This is reflection of the times.A lady friend of mine broke an ankle and was lying on the road for hours ,in a busy city.People passed by assuming she was drunk;she was not.Forty years ago this would not have happened.I see God working behind the scenes though because we now have mobile phones. After this incident (not related though) I was surprised to find that another friend of mine had joined Mother Theresa.

This is very sad, but it is the only logical outcome of the radical conservative "I-got-mine" milieu we live in. Political correctness directs us to look out for #1 and if the playing field gets tilted in my direction, too bad for you.
Love, compassion, Christmas spirit, generosity and good will towards others is considered very uncool, didn't you know? I have actually been told that things like giving and caring is for "losers," that most dreaded label of the 21st century.
Very sad. But thank God there are still a few who will help other people when they can.

The fact that you stopped to help him proves there is still hope for mankind. BTW, the other motorists may have thought the man was drunk and was safer in the mud than in the traffic. Cheers.
