Let's say you do join the National Guard and then jump to ROTC, how about then?

Students enrolled in an ROTC program are members of the military. But, under no circumstance will you be activated or deployed simply because you are in an ROTC program. Your duty in ROTC is to get a degree and to be commissioned as an officer when you graduate.

It is possible to join a National Guard unit or the Reserve while in college. In that case you train on weekends and during the summer just like any other guardsman or reservists. That affiliation has no association with ROTC. If your NG or Reserve unit were activated you would likely be activated along with that unit and deployed despite being in school.

If you want to serve but want to finish your degree first, then join ROTC. In most cases you will get them to pay for some or all of your college. Do not join the NG or the reserves or you run the risk of being activated while in school which would delay finishing your degree.

You will not deploy while in ROTC for the simple fact you are not actually in the military....if you contract, you go into the Obligated Reserves...Sept 11 x ten would have to occur before you got called up and we'd activate the Selective Service at that point anyways.

Air Force ROTC does not allow you to join the Guard and be under contract to ROTC at the same time. If you are an ROTC cadet without a contract and you are in the Guard, then, yes you can be deployed...happened to one of my cadets last year and he missed a semester of school. I'm not saying don't join the Guard, he really enjoyed it and he was serving his country but it did put him a semester behind schedule.

If you are in ROTC you will not deploy until you graduate and are commisioned in either the Active or Reserve branches. However if you are truly interested in serving and therefore joing ROTC why are you even asking this question?

ROTC members, are not in the military.

If you are in the national guard or reserves and an ROTC student,

Depending on the program, you enlisted under.

Some time you may still be deployed.

And ROTC scholorship holders in the NG and Reserves, do not deploy , if thier NG or Reserve unit deploys.

But your not actually in the military, untill you graduate from ROTC and recieve your commission.

since while in ROTC you are NOT A COMMISSIONED OFFICER nor are you actually serving in the military, you are not in a position to be deployed.

HOWEVER..if you joined the Guard or Reserves while attending college, you can be deployed.

Yes. The ROTC is there for you to go to college and then serve after you graduate. Even then, they'll extend it in some cases for a person to get their masters.

It's Possible....

You will not be deployed during school but after you graduate you will be in the military for 3 or 4 years depending on your contract.

There is a chance that you will not be deployed during that time. But I wouldn't bet on it.

yes it is. I did this during college. the key is that you have to contract with rotc. message me and ill give you all the details, and ins and outs.

OK YOU ARE ALL GIVING BAD ADVICE. I did it, the summer between freshman and sophomore year i went to basic training (not deployable because i wasnt MOS Qualified) summer between sophomore and Junior year i went to AIT (i was deployable for 2 weeks before getting back to school) once i got back to school i contracted with rotc and then you become non-deployable. i did my one weekend a month, did annual training between Junior and Senior year, and that same summer i went to camp for rotc. I did all my rotc stuff during school including the FTXs. If there is a conflict between the national guard and rotc, rotc takes presidency. once u graduate your guard or reserve contract is ripped up and all you have to do is for fill your rotc obligation.

If you join ROTC in college, you cannot be deployed. However, as soon as you finish college, I guarantee you will be deployed.

They're not going to send you anywhere while you're in college lad... perhaps afterwards but not before.
