I am the proud mother of 4 beautiful children and this morning while folding laundry I was thinking..."Kids grow SO fast!" Everytime I turn around I am going sorting through their clothing and toys that they have outgrown to make room for new stuff. I've also noticed that alot of the clothes and toys that I am getting rid of are still in really good shape. So I was thinking it would be kinda neat to start a clothes and toy exchange between parents nationwide. Maybe something like this already exists...I'm not sure. Parents could send in their children's ages and sizes and the clothing and toys would be distributed according to that. Think of all the money you could save! I dunno, just wondered what others might think.

It's called "freecycling." Go to Yahoo groups and search for a freecycle group in your area. It's easy. The rules are simple to follow (nothing "alive," nothing "for sale"). All you do is post the things you want to give away, and watch carefully for stuff to pop up that you need.

I think this is a really good idea. I see other's points, though, about cost and giving to those less fortunate. Maybe you could do this in your community? Do it a couple of times a year. It would give people a chance to get rid of the stuff they don't need anymore. And, it would give the less fortunate a chance to get what they need. It would also give the less fortunate a chance to help others, too. There would probably have to be a lot of thought in how much people could take, and things like that. But, I am sure that an area church would be willing to host it, maybe even advertise the occasion. If it worked, maybe it could even happen several times a year. This would also be an opportunity for parents in the community to meet each other. Great idea!

I have a better idea. There is a Yahoo group called Freecycle. You can offer your childrens outgrown things for free and choose a recipient to come pick them up. You can also respond to other offers and pick up clothes and toys from other group members. My daughter and I do this all the time with our things. In our town there are over 20,000 members and lots of free stuff getting passed around all the time. Check out Freecycle.org.

I know the feeling. My child is growing like a tree. She is the only child so there's no giving it to the next kid in line. Luckily for me i have nieces and cousins who are younger than her, so that's where her outgrown belongings go to. You can always donate them to organizations like Goodwill. As for the clothes and toys exchange they do exist. They are called freecycle. I don't know where you are located, but go on Yahoo groups and you will find them. If there's not one in your area start one on Yahoo groups. I'm currently involved in a couple of them. One of them is strictly for kids.

it's a great idea in theory, but i'm not sure how well it work....you'd have to pay employees to sort through everything, then you have the costs involved with shipping...who pays for it??? how do you cover the cost of employees? and the cost of shipping can be quite high so it would almost be worth buying new.

twice a year i go through all of my kids stuff and donate it to local churches and shelters. this way the kids that need it the most get it free of charge.

I think thats a great idea, think it through about how you will pay for postage or how that will work, and what ages.

At some point they stop growing so much. So maybe an age limit

But you are on the right track.

Check if there's a freecycle.org in your area. That works the best.
You can offer items, and can ask for items.
