I am living overseas and don't have any family to visit. We don't stay at hotels but instead take road trips. I am sure we will eventually stay at a hotel someday though. Our kitchen and living room are on the opposite sides of the house with the baby room in the middle. I have 2 cats that would probably try to sit in it and scratch at it. My one cat has the ability to open the doors to almost every room so keeping him out will not be easy. I don't plan on leaving the child unattended. I don't spend my afternoon watching t.v. and spend it cleaning. I move from room to room... If you don't think a travel cot is a good idea any other suggestions would be appreciated.. Thanks

Our doors do not have knobs to lock out the cats. All our rooms are on one floor. Is there a better alternative to a travel cot?

You can always ask for a portable crib if you are staying at a hotel--they have them for you to use. Get a knob cover for the baby's door and your cat will not be able to get in--you'll need to leave your child unattended while you shower, etc. If you buy the toddler knob covers, there's no possibility your cat can get in there. They are under five dollars. If you are moving from room to room, get a front pack carrier or a sling so you can multitask with baby.

I plan to get one. My home has 3 levels. When my husband works, he has to go to bed really early, so I need a second place for the baby to lay. Its also helpful when they get a bit bigger and you are cleaning. I used to move my daughter and her cot from room to room as I cleaned. She could see me, but I could mop and sweep without her crawling through it. As for the hotel thing, I'd rather have my own so I know its been cleaned properly.

Whenever we have traveled my son sleeps with us in bed.

My playpen has only been used as a toy collector.

I think theyre a waste of money.

Get a bouncy chair that you can move around with you, or a sling is even better.

you only need one if you are going somewhere that doesnt have safe sleeping facilities for you baby. We got one, but only used it a couple of times, so it was rather a waste of money. If ever you went somewhere where there was nowhere for the baby to sleep, it could always sleep with you!

I think the travel cot would be very helpful in your situation.
but you could get a collapsible crib so you can take it places.
