Definitely a hindrance--people claim a faith they know nothing about and then misrepresent that faith through their actions and way of life.

There are some sections of the country where Christianity is quite institutionalised and that always defeats the purpose, which is personal conviction and individual action. Some of these publicised groups are simply that -- highly visible and outspoken groups that do not speak for the majority. As a Christian, I don't feel that the country or the government is influenced much by them, more than any other media-driven group. In the part of the country where I live, no one associates themselves with Christianity unless they are sincere believers. There is absolutely no social advantage to it. When I wrote my resume for teaching jobs, I was advised to have no mention whatsoever of religious affiliation, as it would work against me.

Christianity throughout the centuries has been polluted and adulterated by cultural influences from the world, especially the love of money. It's everywhere today. Even Christian colleges are driven my fame and money through sports, all praying to the same God for victory. Politicians carefully craft their responses rather than stand firm in the principles of the real church.
That's why I think that the real church of God is a community of true worshipers and genuine people not confined to human institutions. Jesus told the woman at the well "the time is coming and now is when those who worship God will not worship in that temple or that city, but in spirit and truth..." And Paul quoted "God does not dwell in a house built by human hands"

Franklin Graham of Samaritan's Purse said: "The most important challenge that will face evangelical relief in the next 50 years is to make sure we don't dilute our faith as we respond to hurting people around the world."
I do not attend any Christian church but I agree with Mr. Graham. Church doctrines are being diluted and church is more like a cultural and social gathering of people. Church members perform volunteer work as they would perform any other volunteer service to any charitable organization. Most people I know are church members out of habit, family obligation or social standing. There is very little religious conviction and very little biblical knowledge. The problem I see with cultural Christianity is that it leads to ignorance and fanaticism. Most cultural Christians have a very limited set of beliefs which they repeat over and over again leaving no room for reasoning.

I am finding a lot of embarrassing things going on here that people are saying are "because of God" or "God told us to do it" and it just sickens me--- Westboro Baptist church for example- they are NOT living by God's word and they live by hate.
There are many many people walking around claiming to know God, when infact they are just scaring people away, further from the truth. So many here do not see Christianity as what it truly is. BUT the good part is there are also many wonderful evangelists who are proclaiming the truth word for word, in a LOVING way and not deceving others or trying to gain something for themselves out of it...such as way of the master-- you can check them out at www.wayofthemaster.com also Billy Graham was a wonderful Godly man who shared the love of Christ--so there are many ministries who do continue to follow in the Lord's footsteps and are being greatly blessed. Whatever the case be, we know that God's word will not return void! He is in control and is softening many hearts today!

definite. If he even exists, He has accomplished a spectacularily undesirable activity at protecting issues on top of issues. Supposedly god brings goodness to the non secular, i think of he would nicely be plagued by everlasting amnesia, 'reason He somewhat neglected his philosophy! And now, for the duration of all those years on account that "introduction", God became from a Heroic chief to an straight forward beggar on the line who lost all his assets and administration in existence. And if I think of God the beggar, I start up doubting his existence.

Christian fundamentalism is a huge problem in my country. The fundie disease as infected our government up to the highest level.
This country was founded on the separation of church and state and the ignorant fundies want to force their idiotic dogma on this country through our laws.
They have built a Creation Museum that is an embarrassment to this country. The world thinks we are all a bunch of morons now. The fact that people could ignore mountains of evidence in surely a sign of very low intelligence.
We all must get out and vote to get the fundies out of our government.
