I am really liking sushi all of the sudden. :-)
I'm a vegetarian and it's a great way to get protein and Omega 3 fatty acids. For those of you who are well-versed with this power food, what types are your favorites? What would you recommend for a vegetarian to eat? Are there certain things I should look for to make sure that it's really fresh? (I know that can sometimes be an issue if buying it from a store). What types of sauces/liquids do you like to dip yours in?
Any other tidbits of information are greatly appreciated!
**Merry Christmas!**

Just to clarify my dietary lifestyle, I am indeed a vegetarian. I don't eat fish....

Oh! I also heard that it was bad etiquette to mix soy sauce with wasabi. Is there any truth to this?
Thanks!

Most sushi bars/restaurants have a number of veggie rolls to choose from. You can also find things you like on the menu and request the vegan version - most of the better sushi places I have been will do this.

Wasabi and ginger are a must for me on everything and I just dip in soy sauce. There is also a great sushi place downtown where I work and they have a GREAT chili sauce - it rocks.

Just try everything and don't be afraid to go in and tell the wait staff that you are a vegetarian - they are all WELL VERSED on the menu because many people go that are not used to eating sushi.

I LOVE it. Mmmmm..

You didn't really explain if you eat seafood or not. Some vegetarians do and some don't.
I like to mix a bit of wasabi in my soy sauce for dipping.

I honestly love Magura (Tuna). I'd recommend that one if you still eat fish, if not though.. cucumber and squash with some pickled ginger is really good. I also dip mine in a mixture of soy sauce and wasabi.

Crunch rolls...

they are veggie with tempura in them...

I love dipping them into the soy mixed with a bit of the tempura sweet sauce they ususally give at Japanese restaurants.

And you must try their seweed salad...the one that is all slippery and strained. Its very very good
