ITS NOT TOO LATE!

I ordered a book and DVD from Amazon yesterday and had it today. Make sure you check the box when you're checking out that says 'express delivery'. It'll cost more than normal delivery, but if you want something that's in stock you can definately get it.
I've just checked amazon and there IS still time.

Plus amazon have a very wide variety of books.

Alternatively, instead of buying the books, you could buy gift certificates from Amazon. I've found that when I'm in a pinch to get a gift to someone on time, I've ordered the gift certificate online and it gets e-mailed to the person the very same day. That way, the recipient can not only receive the gift on time, but they can pick out what they want (whether it's books, CD's, DVD's, etc). Also, you can include a little note from yourself to the recipient when you buy the certificate.

Hope this helps : )

I wouldn't have thought you'll get anything by Christmas. Maybe the 27th though :)

The 25th and 26th are Christmas Day and Boxing Day. You definitely won't get anything on those days. They're Bank Holidays.

I see that you only have two options here. The first is go to your nearest bookstore, I'm sure you have a good one around. Depending on where you live determines the store you'll find. If that doesn't work, order one online like you intended, copy the reciept, and you can at least let your friend or family member know what they are getting, you just haven't recieved it yet. Millions of poeple do that. Not everyone gets their gifts in time. There really is no worries here.
