inside my local liquor store. Not sure what USA and Europe beer/wine stores are called(pardon my ignorance--but ours are called LCBO's) but I find it funny that a religion strictly against booze is asking for money inside while I go to buy mine!

ha ha! Funny answer guys, I know it's about donations--duhhhh. but the hypocrisy of them asking for money inside an establishment they look down upon strikes me as darn right hilarious!

You are right, it does sound odd and funny. But when you think about the message of God and Jesus Christ, it makes sense. Jesus said to love the sinner, but hate the sin. So if they see alcohol as sin and us drinkers as sinners, they can still solicit a donation without being hypocrites

The Salvation Army isn't about giving cash to the homeless, it's about giving them food, clothing, and shelter on an as-needed basis. The money they collect is used to provide these necessities of life. Does that make more sense? In many cases, money given to homeless people is used by them to buy drugs or alcohol, which would be counter-productive.

I wasn't going to answer this but feel I have to stick up for the Salvation Army. They do so much good in this world, more than many other churches do. They set up their kettles where the traffic is heaviest and the LCBO (called that in Ontario only) is one of the busiest places in town at Christmas time. I don't mind throwing a loonie into their kettle and I don't think it should bother anybody to do so. If you ever lost your home to fire or ended up homeless, they would be the first people to help you out. God bless them!

This real salvation army is based upon donations. To help those in need.
Be cautious around the holiday season. Anybody could get a bucket pale & hat then ask for money.
The real salavation army groups are usually tied into Walmarts.

Most of our pubs have Bottle Stores, to buy your supplies.
We have the "Booze Barns" called places like Liquor Land which only sell booze.

I think the Sally Army goes to the bars on Friday nights as those who are a bit inebriated are more generous with there cash.
They do a lot of work helping the drunkards and their families. I always donate as you can turn to them for all types of help.
They run food bins to help feed those who can't afford to buy groceries, budget advice for those who can't afford to make ends meet and run a charity store where you can leave things for them to sell.

I think they would be the best loved best respected charity in the countries they operate in.

I always speak up in their behalf. Their admin costs are the lowest of any charity. Their bell ringers are volunteers. If they can't get volunteers they run an ad and pay those ppl minimum wage. Those ppl might stand anywhere in the interests of gleaning money.
Bunch of years ago I was a knock-down drunk. The Army put me in a detox for five days, sobered me up and saw to it that I got into a nice half-way house. Didn't cost me a dime.

Every year my first Christmas gesture is putting something in that kettle and I have been a volunteer myself a couple times.
Thanks for reading this and have a wonderful, wonderful Christmas!!

EDIT: BTW I've been sober ever since.

They could donnate a little money. Then they might not spend as much next time on liquor. Less DUI during the holiday's maybe! Salvation Army helps many!

Feeding the poor and clothing the hungry is a better use of your money than buying booze. They're there to give you the opportunity to help someone in this world besides yourself.

and why do they sell their magazine The War Cry inside pubs at night?
hoping to convert you or save you?
or take advantage of people being tipsy to be generous?
