I mean fruit such as bananas and oranges, the fruit you don't eat peels...

My mother always washes before eat them, but I'd never done that until I read in the magazine "Parenting" that you should wash bananas and oranges before you eat because of a bunch of bacterias and germs on the skins.

Do you wash your fruit?

yes. and even bananas and oranges, because if there are pesticides and stuff on the outside, when you peel it, they can get inside.

Most farmers are liberal with insecticide/pesticide sprays, but you dont have to really wash those fruits which you peel as the chemical does not penetrate deep enough to do any harm. I suppose this question can probably be answered correctly only by an expert in this field.

It is best to wash fruits esp apples, pears, grapes, perssimon, cherry, strawberry, chico, etc. those fruits where you can also eat the skin. I wash them not only because of the bacterias and germs but also to lessen the pesticide contacts on the skin.

We generally only wash non peeling fruits, grapes, apples etc. If there is bacteria in the skin that you are going to cut off and throw away, does it realy matter.?

No. However, I read that cantaloupes can harbor a lot of bacteria in the crevices of the skin. And when you cut into it, you can push the bacteria into the flesh. So, I wash cantaloupes from now on.

I wash the skins I eat, though (apples, grapes, etc.)

Not bananas or oranges, no. It never occurred to me seeing as the protective shell and all its bacteria was being removed... Now I'm paranoid again :S

OMG I didn't think there were people that misinformed. Didn't your mother teach you to "wash your hands before you eat"? Why do you think she told you that. You didn't have to wait until it came out in parenting magazine! Anything from anywhere attached to anybody (yours) should be washed. Peeling has nothing to do with being eligible to be washed or not. Before you put anything IN your body through YOUR mouth especially WASH IT!

Nah, in basic terms fruit I wash are apples, cuz I consume the floor. For oranges n such, i do no longer worry washing it. this is in all probability no longer as healthful, yet laziness continuously defeats purpose in my ideas.
