if greenhouse gasses arnt causing the earth to warm how do you account for the resent trends? what else would be causing warming that is greater then that caused by the earth orbit or the solar output of the sun alone? (and please say more then it is just a cycle)

The recient trends are that the Earth is cooling. How can that be explained even as co2 increases?

Please take the time to read the article:

"Al Gore says global warming is a planetary emergency. It is difficult to see how this can be so when record low temperatures are being set all over the world. In 2007, hundreds of people died, not from global warming, but from cold weather hazards."

What makes you think the warming is greater than caused by natural factors? The truth is natural climate variability does not have any known limits and the rate of change is not significantly different than in times past. For example, the rate of global warming from 1910 to 1940 was about the same as from 1976-2006. If the rate of warming is about the same,

I'm sorry, but our climate has cycles. You need to realize that.

Ask yourself, what will the IPCC say about climate change in their next report due in 2012 when the warmest year on record is still 1998?

janet h is partially right. There are various trends in the climate of the globe. There is a long term one following the end of the ice age. There may be a cycle connected to the eleven year sun cycle.
But the rise in the twentieth century is comparatively fast and does seem to be explained by natural cycles. A process has been proposed to account for it and this has attracted widespread support from climatologists.
Some scientists disagree and it is interesting to study the reasons. I am sure the accuracy of climate models will improve because of this.

I've explained this a million times and am sick of doing it. Greenhouse gasses make very little sense. There's very little CO2 in the atmosphere. CO2 is measured in millionths in the atmosphere. Is global warming happening? It appears so. How about the sun? The earth is practically controlled by the sun. If a little flare up from the sun can cause major winds, why can't the sun change our climates. The sun's not like a light bulb people. It's caotic and is ever changing.
Maybe we should worry more about our ozone layer, you think. We know what's causing that problem and know that it is a fact. I don't see Al Gore talking about that! No matter what anyone thinks we have to stop polluting our earth. But I wish people would pick up a science book and read. I have yet to have a scientist tell me that greenhouse gasses effect the temperature of the earth but have had plenty of POLITICIANS tell me so. However SCIENTISTS have told me that volcanoes, the ocean, decaying vegetation, and animals put out (seperately) more CO2 than man and his inventions do.

Solar output has major effects on the sun. This article explains why the ice in Greenland and Alaska and the surrounding areas are melting:

http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/search/Series/SolarClimateEffects.html

Solar radiance has it's first effects on the red regions. This was a study done by NASA in 2001 and is still prevalent today, so don't try to argue "the study is 6 years old, things have changed since then".

Now refer to the number of skeptical scientists who are finally getting the press they need:

http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=f80a6386-802a-23ad-40c8-3c63dc2d02cb

Whatever happened to the quoted "only a dozen skeptical scientists"? Sounds like the 100 time-a-day bloggers had their "facts" wrong.

It could be several things. First off, the earth is hot on its own. The magma in the center of the earth could be the cause of the melting ice at the polar caps; it's happened before.

It also could be caused by the sun heating up because Mars is warming as well and the Martians don't drive SUV's do they?

The only reason Algore and other cronies are shouting that the sky is falling is due to computer models which project that if this trend continues, we'll just keep getting warmer. But those are just models not scientific evidence.

Yes, some ice at the north polar cap has melted but more ice has grown at record levels at Norway and is affecting their fishing industry.

Global warming is real, we just aren't causing it.

The best question is = Why is the western pacific ocean about 8 degrees centigrade (14+ degree F) warmer than oceans on the same latitude? ! ?
http://coralreefwatch.noaa.gov/satellite/current/key_sst_50km_field.html
You are only talking about a change of 1+ degree centigrade warmer for 'air temperature' to try to equate 'global warming'.

Did you know that the earth's magnetic fields are entertwined with the Sun's magnetic fields And plate techtonics are effected?

Agent0 - Scientists do consider all the GHGs in detail. Methane, per pound, warms things more, but there are a lot less pounds right now. Water vapor (unlike CO2) is rapidly regulated by the Earth, and cannot cause a CHANGE in temperature by itself.

http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/climate-change/dn11652

MrOrph, Buddy-Lee - We know it's not changes in the Sun that are causing this because we measure the Sun continually. Solar radiation has been decreasing a bit for some time now.

Why should I say it is something besides the truth. It is just a cycle. Now if you had said are the greenhouse gases making the natural heating cycle worse I would have agreed with you. Man did not cause the warming on his own. He had lots of help from Mother Nature. I don't know how you can deny her part in global warming. If she didn't know how to warm up we would all be living on top of glaciers.

What else is causing it? What caused the fluctuations of the past? The warming trend we are in now started 8000 years ago. It has never been a straight line.

A follows B therfore A caused B is faulty logic.
