For commercial retailers basically. The Government knows that the fourth quarter of the year is when retail makes its big money and if they kept people working they likely wouldn't be spending as much.

Aside from which, christianity being the majority religion in the US, there would not be enough workforce in places to bother keeping them open anyways as everyone would ask for the day off as vacation time if it wasn't a given holiday.

Christmas was made a Federal Holiday circa an Act of Congress that was approved of and signed into law by then President Grant.

Now, before you complain about this fact, understand that this is the reason (most) people have the 25th of December off from work!

Because the U.S. government was founded on Christian beliefs. They are not going to unannounce it as a national holiday because some people have a problem with it. There are a lot more laws that workplaces have to be p.c. and allow other religons the time they need to celebrate whatever their beliefs are.

It is recognized like many other occassions. It is not mandated. No one is forced to celebrate xmas. I celebrate it though I am decidely not xian because its origins are in a pagan holiday. xians have no original ideas in their religion - they are all lifted from older more ancient religions. copycats.

We can't talk about God in school, should take God out of the pledge of allegiance, and take God off of our money. However paying extra taxes so that we can hang up Christmas decorations is totally fine. I know, I don't get it either.
