a "preppy" girl and an "emo" boy are best friends. are they in love with eachother despite all their differences, or is it best friends it'll stay? Read below to see what's really going on.

background:
girl- goes to an all girls school, told her friend she'd always be there for him, but she switched swim teams so she doesn't see him hardly at all anymore, but they still try to talk. misses her best friend so much... and possibly loves him?? ... and sort of worried about the boy going back to smoking.

boy- public school 45 minutes away from the girl, smokes (or at least didnt for a while... until after the girl left) and drinks, likes to play with knives, extremely smart, swims on the girls former team, still trys to talk to her as much as they both have time for, goes out of his way to do little things like birthday and christmas stuff that her girl friends don't normally do.

it's sorta awkward, but maybe you can help.

Seems like both these people are pulling back for the sake of the other....not because they are so wrapped up in their opposite worlds...so the question becomes...why are they not dating..or are they not old enough...if that is the case the friendship can only grow stronger given cultivation and attention that grows it into love

I guess it depends on which way u mean similar. food and alcohol tastes yeah we like the same. Clothing not so much. Attitude defo not, she's got a proper 'tude on her sometimes lol Also iv'e setting down and trying to start a family wheras she is still going out on the p**s 3 or 4 nights a week. We come from very different backgrounds, and have very different hobbies but she's always a laugh and is always there when needed. It's been a couple months since i last saw her but i know that i can just pick up the phone and yell at her about being a lazy woman and she'll just laugh and we'll pick uo where we left off lol.

okay crazy kid....

i was the emo girl once and i loved this upper class hotshot guy!
opposites do attract for sure and it can be a lot of fun in the process!
i will admit that we did try it for a lil bit but the social stature got in the way. his friends didnt approve of me,and my friends didnt approve of him. we would both hear things like " you can do so much better than THAT!" or "why the hell are u with that freak/ pretty boy" just reverse the roles and ur n my shoes.
we pretended to break it off but we kept seeing each other in secret. it was soooo much more fun that way.

suss out the temp of the water before u dive in head first. try to approach the sit on the sly, scope out what ur friends would think, maybe even try tlkin to some of her friends.

u both have somethin that u enjoy doing, work on it from there.

but hey if things dont look as tho it will work out, weigh up the risks, 'is it better to try', or 'is it better to maybe loose her for good as a friend'.

sometimes it is better to have loved and lost than to not have loved at all!!!!

good luck either way.

It's an old, old cliche; opposites attract. It's a hard road to travel though. My husband and I were just such opposites...and it was very, very tough! He passed away this past January...and I miss him terribly after 41 years together...but I won't kid you that we had an easy time of it. Good luck to you both! Hugs, Gina C.

You may be attracted but it's not likely to last long term.
You seem to have different values; different value systems make it very difficult after the intrique wears off.

It's good to remain just friends and not beyond that.
