Y'see, they were MAGICAL animals that didn't need to poop or eat until all the plants grew back; and all the carnivores learned to eat grass until the prey animals multiplied enough that they wouldn't cause mass extinctions....

With all due respect, first of all it was no "tiny ship" It was three stories tall and, 450 feet long .. about 100 feet longer than a a football field. Others have done the math.
Secondly, maybe they had smaller quarters than they would in zoos, but consider the fact that this was not a permanent set up, like Zoos today are. They were released into the wild when the waters receeded.
PS: Sweetie? I've been meaning to tell you for the longest I love the little kitty thingy :)

It is a shame that in this modern age, you know the one that has the internet whereby you're reading these words, that grown up people still cling to the idea of a bunch of animals getting by in a boat, like Costner's WaterWorld.
I think this Noah dude, as some believe, would have been really mean to hold all these species even in his apparently huge ark, for so long. But the modern equivalents should be heroes, for preserving biodiversity in the face of ignorant and starving people in the third world.
No I really mean that - in terms of survival of species, we've got our genome mapped right? WE are the ones that can lose a few, not the endangered species...

The problem comes from way back. When Adam & Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they did following Satan temptation of being like God who knows good and evil. The "knowing" good and evil include the desire of man to decide what is good and what is evil, apart from what God would say on the subject.
Animal liberation groups are just another group of humans finding a new "good" definition for questions like:
* how large the living space for a cebra should be?
* how clean the water at the penguin's tank must be? at which temperature range?
* etc.
Probably in ten years from know they find new "good" definitions for the same questions.

I was just thinking about this, Noah took 2 or 7 of every animal (depending on which page you turn to) what happened to the animals that need to live in colonies like the many thousands of species of ants, bees and termites?
Cramming animals would hardly have been seen as cruel when stoning humans to death for petty reasons was the flavor of the month.

There's nothing wrong with zoos or the concept behind it but there is a big problem with some of the idiots who work there and abuse the animals. The good guys working there can't be everywhere, and who is going to tell on the rotten ones?

Please point out the verses in the bible that told you that Noah's ark was tiny. Zoos are obligated to care for the animals humanely and make sure that the animals are comfortable afterall they charge admission fee.

Zoo's have always had a dual function. One is preservation work but the other has been for entertainment. It is of course the latter that is frowned upon.

Noah didn't really do that. It is a fairy tale based on a true story. There was a Noah and there was a ship with a lot of people and a few animals on it.. there was even a flood (not one that covered the entire earth though). But the story as it is told - didn't happen. So, we shouldn't be basing real life off of fairy tales..
