A) Yes. There are some denominations who teach this. They are misled by the 16th century bishop Ussher who added the Biblically given ages of the patriachs and then counted forward from Jesus' birth to his day. He was, of course, dead wrong, but try telling them that.
B) Those of us Christians who have more than a fifth grade education in science know that old Mother Earth is at least 4 1/2 BILLION years old. And comprised of the shattered remnants of TWO planets, Terra and Thea, who collided about 4 billion years ago. The subsequent coalescence of these two dead rocks produced not only the Earth we know but the moon as well. And quite possibly gave the original planet what it needed to give life a start.

Yes. It is true. This is because they have not personally done the research to debunk the traditional view. If you take Genesis 1 and break it down to it's original language, Genesis 1:2 is capable of saying that there is no age stated for the creation of the Earth. In fact, it would appear that the Earth was destroyed yet reconstituted after a destruction.
So I am one Christian who does not believe that tradition is correct. Perhaps it was 6000 years since God made Adam, but it is not clear to me that the Earth is 6000 years old.

The earth is billions? of years old, as the scientists say:
Genesis 1:1
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (period)
God can only create "whole" things not destroyed.
(it does not say when the beginning was)
A Space in the bible occurs between Gen 1:1 and 1:2
(this space represents the rebellion of Satan and 1/3rd of the angels in this time period)
Geneis 1:2
"And the earth was without form, and void;...."
Translated:
And the earth BECAME WASTE.
"WAS" = BECAME, CAME TO PASS
without form = "waste" = Hebrew word tohu va bohu
The scientists are correct, the earth is billions? of years old.It does not contradict scripture.
God created it perfect.
Satan rebelled with angels.
God re-created it again with a turn on the axis which changed the weather
See more in II Peter 3
3:5 - "For this they willingly are ignorant of,
that by the word of God (bible) the heavens were of old (billiions of years), and the earth standing out of the water and in the water
(scientific fact):
Whereby the world that then was (Gen 1:1), being overflowed with water, perished:
But the heavens and the earth which are now
(earth re-creation Gen.1:3 - forward), by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgement (after Christ returns, earth renewal again)........."

Yes.
Not misled at all.
Ever wonder just why exactly the Bible has all the days and times written into it? The ages of certain people, the length of whatever King's reign, and so on?
It is there not just for the historical purpose, and to aid with seeing certain prophetic events. If you carefully add everything together, it does indeed show the age of the Earth.
There are also significant days that show. It's just one more way the Bible proves its perfection, but so many just write it off because they've been deceived by man's "science."

It's true that many Christians believe it.
It is not true that the universe is only 6,000 years old.
