Propranolal and Inderal are one and the same. Inderal is a brand name and the basic drug is propranolal. There is not difference between the two. -

Propranolol is in a class of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulatory system (arteries and veins).

Propranolol is used to reduce hypertension (high blood pressure), to treat angina (chest pain), to treat irregular heartbeats, to treat migraines, to treat tremor, and to reduce the risk of a recurrent heart attack.-

Inderal is simply the brand name for propranolol. Inderal does coming in a long acting form which you can take once a day rather than twice a day for regular propranolol. Technically neither one is "stronger" than the other, though generic forms are not exactly the same as the brand name form (because of different buffers, dyes etc.) so there may be a slight difference in bioavailability between one dose or another (I think it has to be no more than a 20% difference but I could be wrong).

Propranolol comes as Inderal and Inderal LA. Both are propranolol, but the LA is extended release. But, if you were taking half of the Inderal 80, you weren't taking the LA,since the extended release only comes in capsules. So, basically, you were taking 40mg of propranolol and now your doctor prescribed 10mg. By miligrams the 40 (half of the 80)is stronger. Did your doctor knew you took 40 before? Do you take it daily or twice a day?
