I had a test a few weeks ago, and my BP was 145/90 which is high for me. I work in banking and work very long hours, and drink a lot of caffeine. I am 22.

I recently did it again at home with a electronic monitor and it was down to 124/75. Is this expected? I was relaxed and in bed in the morning. When I had it done the first time I was really nervous about seeing a doctor. I dont want to state the obvious; but can it be the case that you can have normal blood pressure and occasionally have high readings, but you cant have high bp and have low readings?!

This is quite normal isnt it? My resting heart rate is 51Bpm.

Given that you were stressed out, nervous about the results and on caffine, you could see this level of variability. You can also have 'high bp' with periodic low readings. Because your system is constantly changing to manage your surroundings, activity, there is always some variability. No one can say if you have a problem with hypertension based on 2 data points.

'On average' my BP runs 135ish over 85ish. There have been times when I've taken it early in the day (before I get out of bed) and it is low (112/73) and I've taken it while really stressed (145+/100).

The problem is: You may be having the higher BP more often than you think. Especially with the longer hours and caffine. Suggest you do the foloowing:
- Keep a diary/log of your diet, exercise & stress.
- Use your b/p monitor and take it multiple times per day and track it over a couple of weeks.
- If you get a result that is way out of line, take two more (you can get one false reading, but three in a row is very unlikely).

Once you have your trends, present the results to your doctor. They may offer suggestions on how to control it (diet suggestions & change in level of exercise) , or if needed, put you on a prescription (it doesn't have to be life-long if you can get your other contributing factors under control) to bring it down.

It is good that you are paying attention to this early. Hypertension is often referred to as the 'silent killer' becuase it seldom has obvious recognizable signs. Stay on top of it and best of health to you!

Yes, blood pressure fluctuates between morning ans evening. You mentioned you too the lower reading in the morning, which makes lots of sense. While a 51 b\m heart rate is rather slow. Did you get any medication from the doctor? If not you should consult a doctor, ans see if there is something you can do.

You suffered from white coat syndrome. That is when your B.P. rises when exposed to the Dr. office and/or medical procedures. It is very common. GL
