There was a similar email circulating entitled "Cancer update from Hopkins" about plastic containers and cancer. Hopkins has officially denied that such research took place... see http://www.hopkinskimmelcancercenter.org/news/index.cfm?documentid=866&newstype=News%20Releases&action=showthisitem

Unfortunately, the more info link on that page no longer works, so here's a more detailed explanation: http://www.hoax-slayer.com/plastic-cancer-link-hoax.html

I haven't heard about the rumors concerning plastic and the liver and/or kidney, but even if it damaged those organs it wouldn't cause diabetes

The chemicals that leach out of certain plastics are not in any way related to diabetes. Chemicals produced from plastics are known to cause liver problems and some are carcinogens if people are exposed to large enough amounts of the toxins. Fortunately, most plastics don't leak significant amounts of toxic chemicals unless they are overheated, reused to the point where the plastic is starting to deteriorate, or used with strong acids or bases.
