The bible was written by men under God's direction.

The more one studies it, the more amazing the accounts become. The fact that it was written over a period of several centuries, yet retained its cohesiveness and fluidity is astonishing. The Bible's proven ability to foretell future events in great detail is remarkable.

The Bible has been disputed on several occasions throughout history then later proved to be correct. An excellent example is the Bible book of Daniel which mentions a second king of Babylon. For centuries no record was ever found of this 2nd king so many disputed the validity of the account. Low and behold in the 20th century during a dig, a Babylonian coin was found with the image and name of the 2nd king on it.

There is also the Cyrus Cylinder that is currently on display in a British Museum. Cyrus is the king of Persia that set the Israelites free from Babylonian captivity which was foretold in the Bible several centuries before it occurred. The cylinder depicts the account as recorded by the Persian scribes.

The bible, like all other books, are man made creations. Using the book of Daniel as proof of prophesy is absurd. All scholars agree on a dating for Daniel to between 173-163 BCE. That is after all of the "prophesies" it is supposed to be predicting. And as for the historical facts in the bible, here is a small list to consider:

1. Jerricho was destroyed by Pharoah Mernetpah and was unoccupied for nearly three centuries proven by archaeological evidence. No one lived in the ruined heap when Joshua is said to have attacked it.

2. There is no Exodus out of Egypt backed by archaeological evidence for over 2000-3000 people. There were no 600,000 Israelites wandering the desert for 40 years.

3. The world has never encountered a global flood. The water level has changed over the years (some estimates are that they have raised by as much as 285 ft).

4. The Earth is not the center of the Universe, the Galaxy, or the Solar System. This contradicts numerous Biblical references.

5. As proven by Archaeological evidence, the "Kingdom of David" did exist. However, the dig also showed that the town square contained a large bull idol for offerings and 80% of the households possesed Asherah figurines. David's kingdom is true, but at this developmental stage, Israel was still very polytheistic in its practices. YHWH was just placed at the top of the pantheon. "Thou shalt worship no Gods before me." This is a statement that both affirms the existence of many Deities in their view, but also firmly establishes YHWH as the top of the pantheon. This is known as Monolatriism.

Many people study the Bible as if it is 90% history with 10% theological extrapolation. However, archaeological, scholarly, and extra-biblical writings from nations during this time period clearly show that it is 90% theological extrapolation and 10% history.

John 1
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.
6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John.
7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.
8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

To the above person: THE BIBLE WAS NEVER REWRITTEN TO MAKE A STORY DIFFERENT! SAME STORY, JUST WRITTEN OR TRANSLATED FOR PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND!

EXAMPLE:
For God so Love the World that he gave his BEGOTTEN son.

For God so Love the World that he gave his ONE & ONLY son.
Got it?
And The Bible was written by Important men led by God!
They were led by the HOLY Spirit and it is considered the breathe of CHRIST!

What was the Question again?

Which one? There are alot of them . The Protestant version has 66 books, the Catholic version has 73 and the Greek Orhtodox have a few more than the Catholic. In addition to that the Coptic church has one with 81 books.

You should look up 101 Contradictions in the Bible on-line. You will be surprised at what you find.

I find it hard to believe that God has authored the Bible since there are so many different versions. If He did then which one did he author and which one of these groups has the correct number of books?

There's a "duh" of a question if I ever heard one. It was written by men.
Chi Guy, you are truly deluded. For every one instance of alleged accuracy in the Bible, there are 100 fallacies. For example: Does the sun revolve around the earth? It must, if Joshua could stop the sun in the sky. Why no mention of North and South America? Could it be that the men who wrote the Bible were not aware of the existance of those land masses, along with Antarctica and Australia? If god created those, he'd probably know there were there, right? And on, and on. There might be one or two historically accurate things in Cinderella, but that does not make it a true story.

Well lets see, Now if you were God and you could create awesome and massive things out of nothing not even thin air, don't you suppose you might have the tremendous amount of supernatural power it would take to get a couple creatures you created to scribble down a few notes?

The Bible is the God inspired Word of God.

No, God didn't write any part of the Bible. Of course men wrote the Bible, parts of which are said to be the word of God, and of course, much of what Jesus said is there too.

The Bible wasn't a "creation", it was written as a documentation of true events.

The Bible was written by men who were inspired by God. It was physically written by humans, but inspired, or "breathed out" by God.
