I want to know what the difference is. Like, why are the expensive ones expensive? Does it make a difference to your health? Thanks.

BTW, stents is what they put in your heart during angioplasty.

What I meant was what each type is like, not what the costs are

I don't know much about the costs, but my father, before he passed away recently, had stents put in three times. The first two times, they put in basic stents, which were just basically props to hold his arteries open, but they clogged up. The last time they put in a newer type of stent which included automatic release of a blood thinner. They had been trying to avoid that in the past because they were trying to avoid duplication of medications, but since the earlier ones didn't work, they finally gave in. I assume the newer ones were more expensive.

Alan C is right - there are no "cheap" stents - they are all expensive as is the procedure that goes with them but, over the past couple of years, they have improved the performance of stents by adding an antibiotic coating to them. The jury is still out on whether these are better or not.
