There are many Italian war heroes but you will not find many, if any, in the Italian Army. Where the Italians scored big was their underwater attacks and methods.

The Underwater Heritage Trust - On 9 November 1941 two Italian machines entered Alexandria harbour and blew ... The Second World War led to the development of the British Welman (one man) ...

The Italians were underwater warfare experts, second to none and carried out a number of successful brave and heroic attacks.

What the hell were the Italians doing supporting Hitler for? Their natural friends are here in England and not in Germany.

First Italian ashore here in England was Julius Caesar in c50BC - the Italians are still coming.

1) Kefalonia alone would fill a book with names of Italian War Heroes

In World War II, the island was occupied by Axis powers. Until late 1943, the occupying force was predominantly Italian -- the Acqui division plus Navy personnel totalled 12,000 men -- but about 2,000 troops from Nazi Germany were also present. The island was largely spared the fighting, until the armistice with Italy concluded by the Allies in September 1943. Confusion followed on the island, as the Italians were hoping to return home, but German forces did not want the Italians' munitions to be used eventually against them; Italian forces were hesitant to turn over weapons for the same reason. As German reinforcements headed to the island the Italians dug in and, eventually, after a referendum among the soldiers as to surrender or battle, they fought against the new German invasion. The fighting came to a head at the siege of Argostoli, where the Italians held out. Ultimately the German forces prevailed, taking full control of the island, and six thousand of the nine thousand surviving Italian soldiers were executed as a reprisal by German forces.

Anyway somebody correctly said "heroes" in Italian wars were mainly from "unofficial" combatant, especially inside internal Resistance (Partigiani (Resistance fighting), in World War II).

Before 20th Century there was a prevalence of "more traditional" heroes, like Giuseppe Garibaldi (the winning leader) or Pietro Micca (who sacrifice his life in oder to stop the enemy).

Still, "thinnest book in the world" would be

"Innovations brought by Microsoft"

If you wonder why, try to mention one (ONE!) innovation (a program, etc) from MS which wasn't developed by somebody else and later either *acquired* or imitated by MS.
