Mormons claim that Jesus was not from heaven, but was a man that became a god

and we can do the same thing, point out to me any mormon memebers if i am wrong so far

In Mormon theology there are three Priesthoods: the Aaronic Priesthood which is an appendent to the Melchizdek Priesthood, the Melchizedek Priesthood, and the Patriarchal Priesthood.

The bible indicates that there is only one such person who may be given the title Melchizedek:

Hebrews: 7-11:16

And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared:
"You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek."[a]

Mormons offer the same title of priesthood. That from then on is reserved for Jesus alone,

whatsmore, freemasonry offers the same rank to level 19 initiates,

Is this how you become gods yourselves?

Revelations 7:22

Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant

The covenant of Jesus which is the salvation of man

Now we can see why that title belongs to Jesus alone, unless there are mormons out thjere who have not sinned, died and been ressurected and are proclaiming to be god,

if that;s the case why are you offering preisthoods in the order of Melchizedek

and so too does freemasonry,

why is this on offer, if you can't do what Jesus has done, but yet feel the need to take his rank?

isn't that slightly rude inisisting you can take waht he has and call yourself a preist of the same order

artificially becoming a god yourself?

if i am wrong, please expalin why you have this order of preisthood named Melchizedek?

STRP: And how does you, or your organization grant someone the pwoer of God?

surely only God can give his power onto someone else

so you assume you have beomce gods in order to do this

Senator, just like you point out, no man has that authority

Theyre were high preists before Jesus,

no need for any as Jesus is the high preist

Like you say, no man has that authority

You may have set a new record for erroneous assumptions in one question.

I will take a couple points. First we believe Jesus was Jehovah of the Old Testament. Under the direction of the Father, he created the world. He was and is alway divine.

You finished 'scripture cannot be broken.' Fair enough. Do you know where that is found in the Bible?

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

I'm going to have to disagree with your interpretation of Hebrews 7. I read it as telling the Hebrews that salvation didn't come through the Levitical Priesthood. That's why God had to raise up a High Priest of the order of Melchizedek. It never says that Jesus would be the only or the last one.

And no Mormon I've ever met claimed that Jesus didn't come from heaven. We believe that He did. He is the only person on Earth that was fathered by God. That's a huge difference between me and Him.

The thought process of "becoming gods [our]selves" is that eternity is a long time. I, for one, believe that I won't be doing the same thing forever. I will continue to learn and progress without end (if I'm worthy to inherite it) Eventually, after who knows how long, I believe we'll develop the knowledge and capabilities to create and organize worlds and people to live on them.

Edit: And about receiving the priesthood. In Hebrews 5, it discusses this process. It says that no man can take that honor on himself. He must be called as was Aaron. (Moses brother). In Ex. 28, it shows that the Lord told Moses to choose Aaron. So to receive the priesthood we must be called by God through another person who has that authority.

Edit2: That wasn't what I said. I said a man can't take it himself, it must be given by another. God gave the authority to Moses to call Aaron. Moses was the man that had the authority and then gave authority to Aaron.

You don't know what you are talking about.
Jesus is from Heaven just as you and I are from Heaven. God is the Father of Jesus just as He is the father of us all. Jesus said "tell the brethren that I go to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." Jesus was God before He was ever born into mortality, having been given that calling in the premortal existence. We were all in heaven with Him in the counsels that existed before the world was created. This is indicated in the Book of Jeremiah.
There are two priesthoods, the Melchizedek and the Levitical or Aaronic, which is an appendage to the other. The Patriarchal order of Priesthood predated the other two. In a way, you could say that the Melchizedek is an appendage of the Patriarchal Order. It is not another priesthood.
As for being a holder of the Melchizedek Priesthood, you are mistaken there as well. The Bible indicates that Christ was a high priest after the order of Melchizedek but it never said that He was the only one. In fact, Melchizedek was a high priest after the order of the Son of God, but to avoid the too frequent use of the name of deity, it was called after the name of Melchizedek because he was such a great high priest. Thus, the priesthood is Christ's to give and hold, not to be a holder after the order of someone else. Others, are ordained unto this calling, such as the 144,000 mentioned in Revelations, all being high priests after the order of Melchizedek.
As for masons, they got their ideas from the ancient patriarchs and adapted it from there to what it is today. Thus, they copied from us, not the other way around. We have what the original patriarchs had, being restored by modern revelation direct from the Savior to His prophets today.
As for our place in the eternal plan of salvation and the principle of eternal progression, that is dependent upon our worthiness, repentance, obedience, faith, diligence, humility and learning to overcome the frailties of this mortal condition and coming to be like Christ. When we become one with Him, then we will become like Him and inherit with Christ, all that the Father has.
You need to open your mind and your heart to the glorious possibilities of the Gospel.

"Mormons claim that Jesus was not from heaven, but was a man that became a god"

Can you show me where Mormons claim this? I'm sure somebody said it in the last 200 years, but its not part of LDS scripture. The LDS scripture does say that Christ:

"Was in the beginning with the Father, and was the Firstborn;" and also that "he received a fulness of the glory of the Father;" (Doctrine and Covenants 93).

I have been LDS my entire life, and I have never heard the idea that Jesus was a man before being born in Bethlehem. At least not in church anyway. I've heard it many times from non-LDS people who wish to engage in the grand American tradition of arguing about religion.

I'm sure you're thinking "he's just saying that" but imagine for a moment that you were a member of a less-popular denomination and everyone kept telling you that you believed crazy things that you didn't.

Each person who has tried to tell me that I believe things that I don't thinks they're somehow the first person ever to do so. As servants of Christ, we turn the other cheek, but all of these odd and degrading acusations do get old after a while. You also said:

"Now we can see why that title belongs to Jesus alone, unless there are mormons out thjere who have not sinned, died and been ressurected and are proclaiming to be god,"

The idea that Jesus is the only one who was sinless, and was resurrected is pretty fundamental to Mormonism. None of us deserve to be gods. None of us even deserve to live in heaven with God or avoid the punishment of Hell. The only reason we go anywhere besides hell after this life is because of what Christ did for us.

I'm not trying to tell you how to believe (as if I could), but here's how I see it:

Mormons believe that they continue to improve in the next life. They, and all good people, continue to gain knowledge, talents, and skills. If they continue to do this for all eternity, then someday, in the countless eons of progress, they will reach a singularity of progression (something like Alvin Toffler's "technological singularity": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity).

At that point they will be "joint-heirs with Christ" (Rom. 8:17) and will have obtained "all that the Father hath" (Luke 12:44). When Jesus spoke of the righteous at the Second coming, he said:

"43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath." (Luke 12:43-44).

None of us deserve this great privledge, and no one (Mormon or otherwise) will receive it, unless it is through the mercy and miraculous power of Jesus Christ.

Man.. do you have a chip on your shoulder, or what?

Have you ever heard the phrase "called of God"? Well with the priesthood, God is the one who gives the power. The men of the church are given the authority to use that power, not given the power itself, since Christ still holds all the keys to the priesthood. Men are allowed to use it, but only through the direction, and approval of God.

No. The priesthood doesn't make us gods. It allows males to administer to people, and to administer in the ordinances that Christ set up on earth before His death. That power wasn't only given to Christ. Check out the Old Testament. You will find that more men then just Christ had this priesthood. Yes, Christ is the one that holds all the keys, and they will always stay with Him.

As has been pointed out you are wrong from the start.
And we believe that the priesthood was taken from the earth and then returned through Joseph Smith. Our Heavenly Father GAVE it to us. Why would he give it to us if he didn't want us to have it?

Become gods ourselves? We do not claim to be gods or even to be perfect. We do believe that we have the potential to become like god, that he is our father and that it is our inheritance, yours to for that matter.

Be honest, are you really going to listen to what people are telling you or are you picking a fight? Either way you were misinformed and I am glad I can help. Hope you learn something more about us, Buddy!

The others have answered your questions very well.

As for Authority, God called Joseph smith to act as his prophet. He conveyed the Keys of the priesthood to Joseph Smith- Visit www.Mormon.Org for more information on how all that came about. Then Joseph was authorized to pass the appropriate keys onto other worthy men according to their service to the Lord. So we believe that the Elders of the LDS church have the Priesthood Authority.

Really if you want more learn more go to Mormon.org.

You have misstated Mormon beliefs. Like many other Christian denominations (specifically the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic branches of Christianity), Mormons do believe in "theosis," the idea that man can progress to become more like God. Historically, this concept was had among the earliest Christians.

Mormons believe in the Bible, which teaches: "To him that overcometh will I [Christ] grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne." So we believe that we can become like God through the power of Christ, but not that we will ever be greater than God. We will always worship God the Father and Christ the Son. To use traditional Christian terminology (and not terminology that only Mormons understand), it would probably be more accurate to say that Mormons believe they can become angels in the next life (although that phrasing doesn't exactly capture Mormon belief either, and is explicitly inaccurate if one uses the Mormon definition of "angel"). It is not true that Mormons believe men and women can progress to become equal to God. We will always worship God.

As has already been mentioned by other Mormon respondents, you have sevearl misconceptions about Mormon doctrine.

I could respond to several of your misundertandings about Moron doctrine. Here is a reply to your very first "statement" that "Mormons claim that Jesus was not from heaven."

Mormons make no such claim. Mormons believe the Jesus Christ was with God the Father in the grand councils of heaven, and that Jesus proposed a plan to God, a "plan of salvation," where he, Christ, would come down to earth, and redeem us from our sins.

We believe that Christ is a god, that he is a member of the godhead, consisting of God the Father, the Holy Ghost, and Christ. Jesus Christ came from heaven.

Hebrews 5:1-10
For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are bout of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec

Christ was perfect, a God in the pre-mortal wortld, and fulfilled the plan where by he came to the earth to redeem us from sin.

For a more accruate and thorough description of Mormon doctrine, here is a helpful place. The place where Momron doctrine is outlined; at the church's own webpage. Yeah I know.....who would have thought.....drink from the source of the water, not from far downstream...
