Okay. So I want a pet rat. Male female is undecided.

Need names you'd like. Riddle was my Champayne hooded. Thinking of getting another hooded. LET ME KNOW! Will be getting VERY soon.

The best way to pick a rat, just to let you know, is putting your hand in a cage of rats. One that seems most interested in you or likes you most, you should pick to make the relationship between you and your rat stronger
Males= more lazy and much bigger
Females= hyper, 8'' long without tail

If you are going to house your rat with your current white rat, please make sure to get the same sex as the one you currently have. Once you choose the new rat to house, the new rat will need to be quarantined from the other rat for four-six weeks (six is preferred). This means in another house if possible. If not, a separate room on a separate floor with its own ventilation system will be fine. Do not start introductions until the quarantine time frame is over.
If you are getting another rat to house separate from the one you currently have, get two. Rats should never be housed alone and should always have a companion.
Riddle is a fantastic name for a rat! I love that you named your last rat such an interesting name. Joker and Diesel are two names I enjoy depending on the sex of your planned new rattie and I very much enjoy Surprise and Ricochet.

Make sure you get two rats. If you're looking into buying a pet rat, you MUST be willing to buy it a same sex friend. Rats are extremely social and need to be with it's own kind. Your rat can become very neurotic without a friend.Try researching the animal before you get it. From the way you were talking it sounded like you were planning on getting one rat so I fingured I'd let you know.

My rat's names are Belle (some call her Rosie) and my brother's rat's call is Princess Peach (Peach for short). in case you want those names be at liberty to apply them. I also like the call Bramble for a rat or Blitz.

I have two rats of my own and I named them Oliver and Jack (and I had another one at one time named Dodger, but he passed away :( )
The easiest way for me to think of names for ANY pet is to name them after a character of a movie/TV show I've seen lately:
Oliver (Disney Movie Oliver & Company)
Jack (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Dodger (Oliver & Company)
Pippin (my dog: Lord of the Rings)
Edit: I agree with Brooke as well, that rats are very social creatures. However, it's only necessary to get a 2nd one if you don't have a whole lot of time to socialize with it (like I have school and tons of other things going on). HOWEVER! If you do get a second rat (especially if they're male, like mine) be prepared to set up a second cage, with a second waterbottle, food bowl, etc. if things don't work out. The most common injuries to rats is scratches and bitemarks from fighting for dominance over another rat, and the only way to settle this is to separate them. That's what I had to do with Oliver and Jack, who are now in separate pens.

My rats' names are Telemicus J. Simpleton (Timmy), Delilah, and Fin Razelle (Rizzy). Name it a human name not cutsie names like num nums, or kisses, or oooshabooshaboo.....just be creative, please for pete's sake!

you can look it up on the p.c. just look under pet rats names, either girl or boy and they have them listed in alphabetical order. last time i looked there was alot to pick from
