My curiosity stems from the earlier question to Athiests about their views on the meaning of Christmas and singing Christmas carols. How many consider "Deck the Halls" to be a Christmas carol?

Well, the only reason I asked this is because I've seen so many questions lately, basically picking on the Athiests about why they might celebrate "CHRISTmas", and why they would sing "Christmas carols" when they don't believe in Christian Church teachings. I am Pagan and I also do not agree with many Christian teachings, but it doesn't mean I don't enjoy a seasonal carol or two! So my curiosity was about how many of those people throwing those questions out there, claiming to be Christian, are okay with singing the song "Deck the Halls", which so clearly is a Pagan oriented song. Personally, I have no quams with anybody in how they celebrate the season. Some cultures have "borrowed" from others and incorporated traditions etc. into their celebrations, so what's the big deal if Athiests do the same? This should be the season of Peace, Love, and Goodwill, after all.

That's a Christmas carol (by association and tradition only). I'd say it's actually a Solstice carol because it's not really "Christian" (sounds more Pagan to me). I mean -- trolling the ancient Yuletide Carol and all - dead giveaway.

It's a song sung in the Christmas season . Whatever label you put on it , makes no difference - - song , carol , hymn , whatever .

Depends on what you mean by a "Carol". Is this in the Religious sense or the Atheist sense?

Not I! Boughs of holly, no mention of the savior's birth, the ANCIENT YULETIDE carol, see the blazing YULE before us...

At least there's one song this season that doesn't make me cringe every time I hear it in stores.
