lilmissy; your's is a poor comparison. The Japanese government did not order the mistreatment of those women. THIS case is government-santioned and government applied punishment for laws based on Islam.

Yes, the practice of Islamic law in Saudi Arabia is very primitive. It's not just in Saudi Arabia.....the practice is same in all muslim countries so far as women are concerned. The women have no fundamental rights as enshrined in all civilised countries of the world in their Constitutions.
this young girl who was a victim of rape was sentenced for 200 lashes .....what a Religious Law !!!
She is lucky that she was pardoned ultimately due to foreign pressure from all quarters. All are not that much lucky though.
That apart , women have no right to divorce a husband on any unethical ground whatsoever. This is prohibited in Islamic Law.Men can divorce anyone at will without assigning any reason.
A man can marry 4 women at a time and live with them.....a woman can't.
Women are not allowed to visit Musjid. They are not allowed to go for pilgrimage to Mecca / Medina.
There are a long list of denial of basic equality for women in Muslim society.

This is not to say they don't respect women, it's just part of their religious belief and culture, and who is to say they;re wrong? It's really all in the way you are raised and what you are taught to believe.
I do not like or believe in this form of female treatment, but then again, I don't live there or under their laws.
I also know that in a question like this, some ****** would bring the liberals into play . Being a liberal has nothing to do with the laws of other nations or religions. The reason for her sentence was it is against their law for a female to be in company with other men without chaperone's present, and she violated one of their laws by being there, so the sentence.

After thinking this over, I believe if we had something similar here in our country, maybe there wouldn't be millions of illegitimate kids running around, mostly on welfare.

Sharia Law - made by humans. Changeable. Sometimes contradicts the Qu'ran. Qu'ran - comes from God. Unchangeable. Cannot be changed. Whatever people say Islam respects women a lot. I've read the Qu'ran and they champion womens rights. Before Islam Arabs used to bury their daughters out of shame, and Arabs were very racist much like we whites are now. Somehow Islam changed them for the best.

I don't know, but they claim it all the time. Didn't you know that women are responsible for men's penises? That's seriously how they look at it. I look at radical Islamic men and see serious inferiority complexes. That's a religion (that in extreme cases) seems to mess up both its men and women equally. How can so many people believe everything they're told? Because anyone who breaks away from the herd by thinking for themselves or questioning the rules is met with death.

It is called denial and rationalization. Any evil aciton that Muhammad performed, for instance, is considered completely acceptable by Muslims since Muhammad always provided divine justificaiton. In all fairness, people of all faiths rationalize. I call this process "Menal Gymnastics." Anytime that people structure their lives around ancient literature written by primitive men, they are performing mental gymnastics. For some reason, however, Islam has a greater retrograde effect on civilization than any other religion.

the court said that the girl made it easy for them to rape her , she went in some placw empty of people , that is the cout's view ,

but any way , u r blaming the court for their decision , may be many moslims agree wuth u in that , but islam has nothing to do with the court decision , the are humans , the judement may be right and may be wrong ,

i agree with u she was a victim and victim must not punished , but the court not punishing her for fornication or adultry or rape , they wanted to punish her to make any girl be careful and not to go to somewhere she can be attacked there ,

there is something similar in the bible ,
the only book punishing a raped woman is the bible just becuase she didnt cry , what if she is not able to cry becuase he has a gun or a knife or somehting like this ?????????? ,

Deu 22:23 If a damsel [that is] a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;

Deu 22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, [being] in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

Muslim Women support it.

Indoctrination and upbringing make them 'feel' like the culture and 'place' of women is the right thing.

Its almost like comfort food. You and I have food that 'feels' right to us, because that is what we were brought up on. For me a bowl of spaghetti prepared a certain way, is just right and makes me feel safe. Its irrational and not based on any evidence or fact, but still 'feels' right.

Religion works in the same way, and supports all kinds of behavior, good and bad.

Yeah I heard this, saw it on the web and the news. It's insane first off. Their rules are not our rules, you have to obey what your countries laws are not matter how crazy, brutal and insane they are. Even in our own country, (who would never do that to a woman under any circumstance) we still have to follow our own rules or are punished by the law.

they can't. Owning women is part of their religion. It is actually against the law in Islamic countries like Iran for women to drive, go out without a man that is their husbund, go to school, drink, smoke, or really anyting else for that matter. This is the country that liberals root for and the are against great countries like the US where equality is very important.
