What does it mean when you get a sharp, throbbing pain on the right side of your chest? I have been getting them a lot the past few years and I don't know what they mean. Any ideas?

(I'm a 19 year old female with no weight problems, but I did have a murmur as a baby if that helps)

You might have costochondritis (not deadly at all). I have it, and all I have to do, is take ibuprofen when it hurts. talk to your doctor about this and what the possible diagnosis are.

Good luck!

You should not have chest pains. Go to a very good doctor that will not tell you not to worry. Pain is an indicator of something wrong. Insist they find out exactly what it is. I've been having little sharp chest pains for years and kept being told not to worry. Oh well, now I have heart problems. Surely there was something I should have been doing to put off serious problems way back when but they said don't worry. How stupid of me. You are responsible for your health and if you think you have a problem, go to the doctor until you find one that will help you out with preventive medicine or locate any problem you have. Knowledge is what will make you live much longer.

I need additional details, as will a doctor. The doctor will ask you many more questions to determine the cause. The murmur, more than likely, will have nothing to do with it. Do you smoke, have you smoked, keep a log of time and days of when this occurs, where exactly is the pain, how long and how often does it last. Does it happen while you're sitting, or during activity? You're young, what runs in your family history, did you have spicey food? any past injuries? There's just too much more to know.

Likely it's growing pains. But talk to a doc, to be sure. Chest pains are always worth a visit to the doctor. If nothing else, he/she can prescribe something to ease your pain, and assure there is no real problem.

An answer for something like this cant' be given over the internet. You need to go to your doctor so they can do an EKG and rule out heart problems.

See your doctor ASAP, if you don't have one then go to an ER in your area.

See your health care provider for a annual check-up and don't worry it could be something not real serious but see your doctor in any case.

Cholesterol comes from animal fat like meat, cheese, butter, cream & eggs. Too much cholesterol causes high blood pressure. Eat more vegetables instead. Losing weight lowers blood pressure.

Hiatal hernia, gallstones, esophageal spasms and these are not necessarily weight related. Skinny folks can have these problems, too.
