I took my dog to the vet and spent the last of my savings and the vet can't tell me what is wrong unless I do more tests. She had been drinking and peeing more than usual and wanting to eat constantly. My vet said her blood sugar was normal but I'm wondering if he just made a mistake. Does anyone know other diseases that make a dog do the same things? I am going to take her to another vet as soon as I get some more money saved up in a month but I am worried. She acts normal other than this. I feed her a really good dry food (California Natural) mixed with cooked chicken or beef.

I have an 8 yr Chihuahua and she is the same way. I've had her for 2 years and she has always been that way. She would eat/drink all day everyday if I let her. Instead of taking her to another vet try searching online for Chihuahua groups or blogs. I did alot of research online when I got her and remember coming across several sites where you could email breeders and/or owners. Some sites were full of information about the breed and had postings from breeders.

Have those tests done. If a vet advises you need treatment, getting the advice from laypeople isn't an acceptable alternative. Ask if you can have healthcare credit, or a payment plan so that you can pay in installments. And then invest in healthcare insurance.

Your vet who's seen your dog isn't as likely to make a mistake as people here who haven't seen your dog and often don't know a great deal about animal healthcare are.

You need to get those additional tests done ASAP. I'm not sure about the eating, but drinking and peeing could indicate renal failure, and if this is the case the dog needs a special diet.
