I usually catch only 1 or 2, but I've had 8, yes 8, colds this year. Why have I caught so many in comparison to previous years, any ideas? I've not changed jobs or habits or anything. Thanks

how do you know it was a cold each time? Did you run a fever? if not and you had congestion it could be allergy related. An increase in vitamin C won't hurt either way. But try an antihistamine/decongestion. You might need to use a routine antihistamine for allergy control. Allergies can change and especially enviromental type. You might be exposed to something without knowing it. You could see an allergist if it continues.

Hmm I don't no just bad luck perhaps? With colds, it is thought that every time you get a cold and get rid of it, you become immune to it. So every cold you've ever had is a different one. There are also thought to be about 100 cold viruses, which means that every cold you get, that's one less to get in the future. So if you continue to get 8 a year it won't be long before you're immune to all of them. Which would be a very good thing. :)
People above are absolutely right...take Vitamin C..1000mg a day to boost your immune system. Vitamin C is fascinating..you can never ever have too much of it...it goes back to when we were apes and used to eat 20 oranges a day or something.

P.S. I love the fact you started a question with "not that i'm being pathetic..."

Interestingly, the older you get the fewer colds you catch. Apparently there is only a finite number of cold viruses and we tend to go through them all as we age - I'm 62 and haven't had a cold for at least 3 years! You probably should stay off work when you're infectious as it only spreads it round your workmates - but as they probably gave it to you in the first place then there's little point! Sorry that this isn't more helpful but at least you know you have fewer to look forward to!

Do you have enough Vitaman C. If not get some of the 25mg ones from the chemist they taste nice and try about 3 or 4 a day for a while

Eat more garlic, it does work. I usually only have one cold in a year and I don't get it half as bad as some people do.

maybe the first few weakened your immune system and left you more susceptible. working hard and being run down can also leave you vulnerable.

i sympathise. feeling a bit off myself today, hope it will not develop into full blown cold just in time for Christmas
