My dog Duke weighs about 90 lbs and yesterday I was sitting in the recliner and he jumps up and sits on my lap. Then he laid in my lap.
I thought it was cute! He doesn't do it too often so I don't mind him laying in my lap.

My other dog doesn't think she is a lap dog. She is my avatar. She likes to lay by me though on the floor.

Absolutely!! Our 85# Rott and 65# BC both enjoy sitting on our laps! They both know that they can only do that when WE say it's okay. They try to sneak up with us occasionally, but for the most part they stay on the floor. They do however LOVE to sleep with us! It gets very crowded with 2 big dogs, 2 humans and a full size bed!!! It makes the bed toasty warm though!!

My Dad had 6 great danes in the house. Every one of them was a lap dog. Butt in the lap - forepaws on the floor!
I have a fondness for big cuddly dogs - so that's fine.
My pit bull is a lap dog - but he's only 60 pounds. What's more fun is he loves to sleep under the covers.

He may not do it often, but, if you start to allow it, he will!!
I have dogs that are over 50 pounds and they would NEVER think of jumping on my lap. They will come over and lay be me on the floor when I am sitting on the couch, but that is as far as we go. Hope I helped!!

My two think they're lap dogs too. My English Bulldog weighs almost 50 lbs and lays in my lap when I'm on the couch. My English Mastiff pup weighs around 50 lbs too (she'll get much much bigger) and she loves nothing more than being right in my lap (no matter where I'm sitting.) I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!

Oh yes, my big dog thinks that he's a lap dog. He has to be right on top of my lap, even if that means almost laying on my chihuahua and making him move. He is such a cow, but I don't mind really. I know that he's just a big lover and wants to be as close to me as possible.

I have a homeless malamute 4 months (Still has baby teeth) 40 pounds that I am working on breaking of this. He is a big I mean HUGE baby lap dog.
My newf will climb up on the couch and lay on who ever is there. Wouldn't be so bad if she weren't so old and disabled and could get off of you. And if you stop petting her she smacks you with her bear claws.

I have had many large breed dogs and all of them have thought they were lap dogs! I love it! I even had a great dane that thought he was human! He would sit on the couch with his hind legs under him and his front legs still on the floor, and if you sat in his seat...he would stand and stare at you till you moved...and if you didn't move, then he would sit in your lap!

Chyeah. My pup is only about 50 pounds so far (but he's no Chihuahua) and every night he sleeps with me. This wouldn't bother me, except I only have a twin bed and he decides to sleep next to me instead of at my feet, so he thinks he can stretch out which initially pushes me into the wall. Also, when I'm on the couch, he hops up on it if I let him, which means he's now ontop of me. Sheesh. But I do love him :)

Yes! My 80 pound collie has always thought of himself as a lapdog. He lays across anyone who's sitting on the couch. I think he just wants to be close to us all the time.
