Jerusalem used to use the Atarot airport a few miles to its North inside the West Bank, but deterioration of relations with the Palestinians means that it is not considered safe to use at this time, and it is now under the control of the Israeli Army.

As a result Jerusalem residents currently use the Ben Gurion international airport (formerly known as Lod airport) located in the direction of Tel Aviv.

No. There was a small airfield during the 1967 war, when Jerusalem was under siege. That has since become a main thoroughfare.

The nearest airport is Lod, in Tel Aviv. It's about an hour away from Jerusalem.

You'll want to use Ben Gurion Airport (Tel Aviv). You can get to Jerusalem by Sheirut (catch one right outside the airport, no need to call in advance) for about 40 sheckles (10 dolalrs). It will take you anywhere you want in the city.

Yes, Atarot International Airport. However, the main two International airports in Israel are Ben Gurion Airport in Lod near Tel Aviv and Eilat. Atarot is mainly used for internal flights from Eilat and personal aircraft. Last time I was in Israel we took a flight over Jerusalam from Atarot.

Atarot used to only accept International flight when Ben Gurion was unable to be used (normally due to Weather conditions), it can take all flights except Jumbo Jets (Boeing 747s) and these were redirected to a military terminal which had a runway big enough to take them.
