I live, breathe dream about this business I am starting up. I just stayed up 20+ hours doing research and other things. I can't sleep because I constantly think about it! I know it will work, thats why I am excited and can't seem to stop thinking about it. I am a workaholic. I am a father to be soon, I just am worried since I will work at home, I will be so obsorbed into work that I won't spend time with my child. I don't want to do that but then again I want to live comfortable and show my child that hard work pays off. I just need to know how to balance things I suppose?

I'm sure things will change when my child is here and I'm sure I would make time for my child.

Why would you be sure that things will change? You are already ignoring your wife for those 20+ hours you are staying up.

Your child doesn't care about living comfortably or that hard work pays off. You can look at social history of men and work over the last 50 years and be well assured that having a father that gives you things but isn't there for you doesn't work for anyone. Your kid wants your time, period.

Start by talking to your wife about her expectations for your time. If you work at home, you should be working a regular schedule just like you would at work. There will be over flows, you can't work for yourself and be successful and not fully commit to it. But this is the time to learn to balance your life, before you have that child. Oh and btw, if you don't and you have that sudden heart attack that kills you in front of your family(happened to a good friend of ours), it won't matter how successful your business was. The regrets at that point is that you didn't spend enough time with your family, and it will be their regrets, you'll be dead.

If you are already worried about it, that proves you will make time for your child.
