The leather flying helmets were part of the uniform of a pilot,

also in in the summer it gets cold up there, some helmets were connected with the wireless and communication systems,

but it was not uncommon for a pilot to have to open the cockpit to look out if the front windscreen became smeared in oil, to get his bearings, most flight goggles were integrated into the helmet.

kamakazi is basically a divine japanese wind that never blew
and according to japanese mythology, if it ever blows, the world will be swept away...
kamakazi pilots, named after the wind, were pilots that during the world wars, intentionally crashed their aircraft, at that time, parachutes were not such a successful idea as the parachute would get 'torn' resulting in a crash landing...
so obviously, those who ejected themselves would wear helmets.... and the kamakazi pilots would escape the aircraft by ejecting themselves out.....

They were not actually helmets - for protective purposes anyway. They had two functions 1 - keep them warm in the cold temps 2 - they held communication devices (microphone, radio speaker)

kamikaze is an ancient Japanese warrior that was there to serve and protect the nation to the death, Ace G.- nothing to do with wind..
The strategy was thought up by people of Japan who turned to the ancient and heretical past.. Hence "kamikaze" pilots.

They didn't
During WWII, airmen didn't wear helmets they wore skull caps to keep their heads warm, and they held the radio equipment.
If the kamikaze pilots didn't wear one, they wouldn't know where to fly as they received vectors from the ground.

NO, they didn't. Kamakazi was sort of like suicide, but they did what they did for a good reason. (In their point of view, anyway.)

Because after the impact, they knew some brain matter, along with skull fragments would be in the helmet. and would be traced back to there family.
